Old Dixie Highway Tequesta, FL 33469 TO: Michael Couzzo, Village Manager FROM: Roy Fallon, Chief Operator DATE: April 28, 2010 RE: Current State of the Utility for Water Production At this time, the public drinking water produced at the Tequesta Water Treatment Plant is of the highest quality and meets or exceeds all federal, state and local drinking water standards. Currently, the Plant's permitted capacity is 5.13 MGD, which makes it a Class B, Category II Water Plant in the State of Florida. The Water Production involves the blending of two processes to obtain our finished water. The two processes of Water Production are: the Filtration Process and the Reverse Osmosis Process. The Filtration Process uses six multi -media filters composed of anthracite and sand, with a design capacity of 2.73 MGD. The source water for the Filtration Process is provided by 10 surficial wells. The Reverse Osmosis Process is composed of two R.O. Trains, rated at 1.2 MGD each. Train No. 1, put in operation in 2000, recently had the membranes replaced after ten years of operation. Train No. 2 was put into operation in 2007. The source water for the R.O. Process is provided by three deep wells within the Floridan Aquifer. The R.O. Process also utilizes a degassifier /scrubber system for the finished permeate. The Water Production system currently uses three water storage tanks. Two storage tanks, a 2.0 MG and a.750 MG, are located at the Water Treatment Plant site. The third Current State of the Utility for Water Production Page Two storage tank, a .5 MG storage tank, is located at a remote pumping station located at Bridge Road. At this time, all of the Water Treatment Production equipment is functioning properly and in good repair, the exception being the .5 MG Ground Storage Tank at Bridge Road, which is fully functioning at this time but in need of repair, replacement or elimination in the near future. The R.O. Process that was put into service in 2000 is now over ten years old. We can expect to refurbish and replace some of this equipment within five to ten years. The staff at the Water Plant takes pride in providing the highest quality water possible, along with responsive, courteous and quality service to the customer. VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA STATE OF THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM The Village of Tequesta water distribution system is in excellent health. It consists of approximately 75 miles of distribution mains, over 500 fire hydrants, and close to 5,000 metered connections. It is maintained by a staff of 7 trained employees. The system has been in operation for 52 years and has grown with the Village. Over the past 10 years the Department has done capital improvements costing well over 1 million dollars. The majority of these improvements consist of upgrading older parts of the system, which include water mains, meters and fire hydrants. The system continues to grow with property developers adding connections and extensions to the system, as they develop properties in our service area either by residential or commercial additions. With a fiscally responsible Village Council and Manager at the helm, the distribution system continues to operate at a high level; with adequate staffing and training the system continues to provide a safe conveyance system of potable water to it residents and customers. 3451'equesta Dr., Tequesta, FI 33469 561.575.6200 Fax: 561 -575 -6203 www.teguesta.org
