Weinand, Dir. of Community Dev. /Fire f Date: October 28, 2010 Subject: Replacement of damaged Fire Department Vehic e. On May 19, 2010, I was involved in an accident that caused a significant amount of damage to the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that I was driving. The original damage estimate was $4,515.66. A purchase order was issued for repairing the vehicle and then the body shop noticed additional damage. The insurance adjuster now estimates the damage to the vehicle at $11,241.37 and noted additional damage may be found when the work is performed. Along with the exterior damage to the vehicle, there is extensive front -end damage and the vehicles frame needs to be replaced. Two vendors have been interested in fixing this vehicle. I'm not convinced it's cost effective to put this much money in a seven -year old vehicle with more than 90,000 miles on it that will need to be replaces in three years or less. Other repairs needed and not included in this estimate are the replacement of a rear main seal and replacement of transfer case. According to Kelly Blue Book a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe in excellent condition is valued at $13,315.00, good condition is $12,765.00 and fair condition is $11,440.00. The Village has collected $10,241.37 in insurance revenues to repair this vehicle in 09/10 fiscal year, which will require an appropriation from fund balance to complete this repair, since we are in a new budget year. Under State of Florida Purchasing Agreements the vehicle can be replaced for $27,421.00. Therefore, if you use the insurance revenues received for the down payment, a new vehicle would cost the taxpayers $17,179.63. When looking over a ten -year life span of this vehicle, I feel it's the prudent choice to replace this vehicle verse repairing. Attached is a Resolution for replacing the vehicle for your consideration. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. i RESOLUTION 38 -10 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, APPROPRIATING FUND BALANCE AND INCREASING THE GENERAL FUND 2010 -2011 BUDGET AND PROVIDING FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF A FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
