AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA,
PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF ALL DOGS WITHIN
THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA;
AUTHORIZING THE IMPOUNDING AND DISPOSITION OF
UNTAGGED DOGS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 . Prior to the 1st day of January of each
year, the owner or person having custody of any dog within the
Village shall apply to the Police Department of the Village for a
dog license tag. Such owner or person having custody of the dog
shall furnish the Police Department with evidence, such as a
certificate from a licensed veterinarian, that such dog has been
inoculated for rabies within the past 60 days. The application
for a dog license shall show the name, age, sex and breed of the
dog, the owner or custodian, the address of the owner or custodian,
and the last date of inoculation for rabies.
Section 2 . The fee for the dog license shall be one
dollar ($l); and upon receipt of the same, the Police Department
shall issue to the applicant a dog license tag, made of metal,
which shall have stamped thereon the words "Village of Tequesta"
and the year for which the same is issued, and shall bear an
individual serial number.
Section 3. The dog license tag, as issued in the manner
stated in the preceding section, shall be securely fastened about
the neck of the dog for which the license tag was issued, and no
dog shall be permitted to run at large within the Village without
such tag. It shall be unlawful for any person to attach such dog
license tag about the neck of any dog for which no application for
license has been made as set forth above.
Section 4 . Any dog found running at large within the
Village without having a current license tag attached about its
neck or licensed according to the provisions of this section may
be impounded by any member of the Police Department and turned
over to the Animal Rescue League of Palm Beach County or to any
licensed veterinarian. Any dog found running at large upon
private property within the Village limits without being licensed
according to the provisions of this section may be taken in and
impounded by the owner or occupant of such private property and
turned over to the Animal Rescue League of Palm Beach County or
to a licensed veterinarian.
