Something different is flapping from the Tequesta Village Hall flagpole these days: the community's new
flag.
Seeking to promote the 5,700- resident village at the north end of Palm Beach County, officials spent
$1,963 for seven nylon flags that will fly above buildings including the parks and recreation department
and the water treatment plant.
Four of the flags are 5 feet by 8 feet. The other three are larger, 12 feet by 18 feet.
"We've never had a flag. We are more aggressively marketing the village as a great place to live and
come visit," said Village Clerk Lori McWilliams.
The flag features two orange and red feathers, tinted with black, blue, yellow and green. "Tequesta" is
written in blue script alongside a "swoosh" designed by Village Manager Mike Couzzo.
"We wanted something that would create an identity for the village," Couzzo said.
The village recently launched a Facebook page for better promotion and communication with residents.
Village stationery and the village website will continue to carry the symbol of the Tequesta Indian, which
appears on the new Tequesta Drive bridge over the Loxahatchee River and other locations.
The village plans to copyright both designs, which will add about $200 to the total cost. The seven flags
were purchased from Gurnee, III. -based Quality Flags Inc.
"The flags really stand out. You can see them a mile away," said McWilliams.
