The Village of Tequesta enjoyed a
day in the sun Saturday during the an-
nual Tequesta Pest, held for the first
time this year at the new Paradise Park.
More than 75 vendors were on
hand showcasing a wide selection
of food, health, fitness, and artisan
products. An old- fashioned classic
car show tempted motorheads off
Bridge Road. Three live bands per-
formed on two stages.
Children frolicked at a special stage
that included dance recitals, magic
and fire dancers, an interactive area,
and a Maltz Jupiter Theatre perfor-
mance.
Other stars of the event included
race -car driver and Indiantown native
Patrick Sheltra, whose family runs a
Jupiter -based construction business.
Sheltra and his team had a banner
year, winning the Automobile Racing
Club of America (ARCA) 2010 Cham-
pionship. Sheltra, crew chief Jon Wolfe
and the team's No. 60 Toyota Camry
were at the festival greeting fans.
Sheltras career is close to the hearts
of many Tequesta residents. His car
prominently displays the town's
name and logo on the hood: Tequesta
Road and Bridge.
"This is a family affair," Sheltra said.
"We could not have become the 2010
ARCA Racing Series champions with-
out the guidance and support of my
mom (Grace) and dad (Rick). We've
been competing in the ARCA Racing
Series full -time since 2007 and now
we've been able to prove once again
that a family -owned team can make it
all the way to the top.
ARCA teams race stock cars in li-
censed competitions considered as
stepping- stones for the neat level,
NASCAR.
Supplemental amusements at the
event included thrill rides, multi -
player games, festival games, face
painting, a super slide and a mobile
learning adventure area. ■
