HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_04-97/98_10/09/1997 i • RESOLUTION NO. 4 -97/98 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, URGING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT BOUNDARIES FOR DWYER COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL SO THAT THE HIGH SCHOOL AGED STUDENTS RESIDING IN JUPITER FARMS WILL NOT BE CAUSED TO RELOCATE TO JUPITER HIGH SCHOOL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Dwyer High School Advisory Committee Executive Committee, at a Boundary Meeting held on September 4, 1997, unanimously approved a motion to maintain the current boundaries of Dwyer High School, Palm Beach Gardens High School, and Jupiter High School as they are until Dwyer High �p School is impacted by growth and overcapacity and further recommended that once such attendance occurs a phase -in with ninth - graders be recommended with sibling consideration; and WHEREAS,the School Advisory Council of Jupiter Community High School,in response to proposed boundary changes offered by Mr. Harry Fix on behalf of the Palm Beach County School • District, recommends that students from Jupiter Farms be phased in relative to their proposed relocation to Jupiter High School, beginning with the Freshman Class in the School Year 1998 -1999 so that neither Jupiter High School nor Dwyer High School would suffer serious impact from a gradual phase -in by adding one grade per year; and WHEREAS, boundary changes of the magnitude proposed by the Palm Beach County School District would be a radical change, extremely destructive to school climate. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed. Section 2. The Village Council of the Village of Tequesta i urges the Palm Beach County School Board to not alter the attendance boundaries for Dwyer High School until such time as Dwyer High School is overcrowded. Section 3. The Village Council of the Village of Tequesta urges the Palm Beach County School Board to phase in the attendance of high school aged children from Jupiter Farms, • currently attending Dwyer High School to Jupiter High School, beginning with the Freshman Class in the School Year i i' i I 1998 -1999, to provide for an incremental, gradual phase -in of boundary changes for those high school aged children residing in Jupiter Farms proposed to attend Jupiter High School in the event that Dwyer High School becomes overcrowded. Section 4. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to send copies of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County School Board, the School Advisory Council of Jupiter Community High School, and the Dwyer High School Advisory Committee Executive Committee. Section 5. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption by the Village Council. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Mackail who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Cameron and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Alexander W. Cameron Joseph N. Capretta • Carl C. Hansen Ron T.
