HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_09-94/95_01/12/1995 • RESOLUTION NO. 9 -9495 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING POLLING LOCATIONS, ELECTION OFFICIALS, AND INSPECTORS OF ELECTION, AND ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION/ANNEXATION REFERENDUM SCHEDULED TO BE HELD MARCH 14, 1995. WHEREAS, the Village Council adopted the uniform filing and election dates as adopted previously by the Legislature of the State of Florida (House Bill 742), designating the second Tuesday in March as the uniform election date for any election relating to a municipal office; and designating a filing period for candidates for any municipal office in Palm Beach County from noon on the last Tuesday in January through and not later than noon on the second Tuesday in February of the calendar year; and WHEREAS, Section 2.01 of the Village Charter provides that Councilmembers shall be elected at large to Seats 2 and 4 in the odd years; and • WHEREAS, Section 8, of the Village Code of Ordinances provides that Council may designate by Resolution polling locations, election officials, and inspectors of election, election procedures and other incidentals required to conduct the Village Municipal Election; and WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta, desires to designate polling locations, election officials, and inspectors of election, and establish election procedures in the event that it becomes necessary to conduct a Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum on March 14, 1995. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Section 1. Notice is hereby given that a Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 14, 1995. The polling locations for Village of Tequesta voters will be: Precinct 002 - Village Hall Council Chambers 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida Precinct 14 - First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta Fellowship Hall • 482 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida a Notice is also hereby given that the Annexation Referendum, i scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 14, 1995, is contingent • upon final adoption of Ordinances No. 484, 485, 486, 487, and 488, ..ANNEXING INTO THE VILLAGE CERTAIN AREAS OF LAND; • PROVIDING FOR A REFERENDUM ELECTION IN THE VILLAGE AND WITHIN THE AREA PROPOSED TO BE ANNEXED;... The polling locations for voters in the areas proposed to be annexed will be: AREAS A, B, and E (east of FEC Railroad): Precinct 001A - Jupiter Branch Library Meeting Room 705 Military Trail, Jupiter, Florida AREAS C, D, and E (west of FEC Railroad): Precinct 001 - Community Christian Assembly Church Fellowship Hall 100 S. Pennock Lane, Jupiter, Florida The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Section 2. In accordance with the provisions of Section 8 -2(b) Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances, the Village Clerk shall be the Clerk of Elections and shall supervise the conduct of the Municipal Election, in accordance with the State i of Florida Election Laws and Village Ordinances. Section 3. The names of the designated Inspectors of • Election for Precincts 002 and 14 will be chosen from the following list of qualified poll workers: Helen Arens Viola Lipari Emilienne Bigbie Mimi Ludwig Ruth Butterfield Mary Ann Mann Dorothy Campbell Rita O'Donnell William Eidson Palma Pescitelli Jeannette Gould Henry Robinson, Jr. Pauline Hutchinson Gertrude Schroeder Patricia Klaiber Joseph Sims and that, in the event that any of the above named individuals are not able to serve as an Inspector of Election, the Village Clerk shall designate an Inspector(s) from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections' list of qualified poll workers residing in Tequesta. The names of the designated Inspectors of Election for Precincts 001A and 001 will be chosen, at the discretion of the Village Clerk, from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections' list of qualified poll workers serving in said precincts. Section 4. The Village Manager shall authorize payment of the Inspectors of Election per the rates in effect for poll • workers of the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office in the event that said Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum is necessary. Section 5. Jackie Winchester, Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections, and Joann Manganiello, Village of Tequesta Village Clerk, are appointed members of the Village of Tequesta Canvassing Board for the purpose of conducting the Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum. Section 6. The provisions of the Florida Elections Code relating to absentee ballots shall apply to the Village of Tequesta Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum and absentee balloting shall be administered by the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office. Section 7. The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office is designated to tabulate the ballots cast at the Village of Tequesta Municipal Election /Annexation Referendum. Section 8. The Village Clerk, or her appointed designee, shall provide a copy of this Resolution to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections. Section 9. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED by Councilmember Collings , who moved its adoption.
