HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_21-93/94_07/28/1994 • i RESOLUTION NO. 21 — 93/94 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN OPPOSITION TO CASINO TYPE GAMBLING IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. I WHEREAS, certain types of gambling and gambling establishments commonly known as casino gambling are illegal in the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, there is an effort under way to amend the Florida Constitution to allow casino gambling and to use certain proceeds to fund governmental programs; and WHEREAS, the introduction of casino gambling in Florida will have a negative impact on family oriented tourism which is the backbone of the State's tourism industry; and WHEREAS, the cost to government and communities will far exceed the revenue returned to government and communities by gambling activities; and • WHEREAS, neither the public or government will benefit from casino gambling. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE I ' VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta, Florida, opposes any change in the State Constitution or State Law which would allow casino gambling in Florida and urges all citizens to give thoughtful consideration of the ramifications upon the quality of life in the State of Florida. I I THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Schauer , who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Collings , and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Joseph N. Capretta Ron T. Mackail Earl L.
