HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_19-93/94_07/14/1994 RESOLUTION NO. 19 — 93/94 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, CALLING FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE JUPITER HIGH SCHOOL AND URGING THE SCHOOL BOARD OF PALM BEACH COUNTY TO ACCOMPLISH THE RECONSTRUCTION WITH THE HIGHEST PRIORITY. WHEREAS, the Village Council has met in a Workshop Session with the School Board of Palm Beach County; and WHEREAS, the Members of the Village Council have appeared before the School Board of Palm Beach County at their meetings concerning the condition of Jupiter High School; and WHEREAS, the School Board of Palm Beach County has been made aware of the need to reconstruct and refurbish the Jupiter High School; and WHEREAS, the Village Council has been informed by the School Board of Palm Beach County that the Board recognizes the cost - effective nature of the proposed reconstruction plans resulting from a study undertaken by the School Board; and WHEREAS, preliminary priorities given this project within the District do not reflect the comments nor positions previously taken by the School Board of Palm Beach County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Village Council strongly believes that the future of our community and North Palm Beach County are inherently linked with the quality of the public educational system available to all of our residents. SECTION 2. The School Board of Palm Beach County has undertaken the necessary consultant studies to investigate methods and propose plans for improverlents to the Jupiter High School facility through a combination of consolidation, refurbishment and reconstruction. SECTION 3. The Village Council understands the School Board of Palm Beach County has expressed its opinion that Plan #4, as contained in their consultant's report on the future of Jupiter High School, is the most cost - effective approach to • improving the educational facilities within this area. i SECTION 4. The Village Council respectfully insists that the School Board of Palm Beach County exercise the authority necessary to ensure that the Jupiter High School is given the attention and appropriations required in order to provide the facilities deemed essential for the proper educational environment. SECTION 5. The Village Council believes the Jupiter High School meets every published criteria of the School Board of Palm Beach County for the designation of a "coastal school" facility. The Village Council respectively insists that this designation be formally awarded the Jupiter High School and the correction of the Jupiter High School be made a priority with the rest of the coastal schools in Palm Beach County. SECTION 6. The Village Clerk shall forward copies of this Resolution to appropriate officials for their consideration. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Schauer , who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Collings , and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Ron T. M ackai1 Earl L. Collings Elizabeth A.
