A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE VILLAGE
MANAGER TO CAUSE TO BE PLACED ON THE BALLOT
FOR THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA MUNICIPAL ELECTION
SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 9, 1993, A "STRAW VOTE"
QUESTION TO BE ANSWERED BY THE REGISTERED
VOTERS OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, SAID
QUESTION RELATING TO WHETHER THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA SHALL ESTABLISH ITS OWN MUNICIPAL
FIRE DEPARTMENT; ESTABLISHING THE BALLOT
LANGUAGE TO STATE THE QUESTION; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta currently contracts with Palm
Beach County for the provision of fire /rescue services; and
WHEREAS, interest has been expressed that the Village create
1P its own municipal fire department to provide for and manage
fire /rescue services for the residents of the Village; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best public interest that
before the Village Council considers the matter further, the
current sentiment of the Village electorate on this issue be
determined by a "straw vote" to be held at the regularly scheduled
municipal election on March 9, 1993.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. For the purpose of determining the current
sentiment of the electorate of the Village of Tequesta relative to
whether or not the Village should discontinue its relationship with
Palm Beach County for the provision of fire /rescue services and
create its own Tequesta fire department to provide for fire and
rescue services, there shall be placed on the March 9, 1993,
election ballot the following question:
STRAW BALLOT QUESTION
Shall the current manner of providing fire /rescue
services to Village residents through contracted services
with Palm Beach County for fire /rescue be changed so as
to provide that the Village establish its own fire
department to provide for and manage fire /rescue services
for the residents of the Village?
YES NO
The ballot shall clearly indicate spaces to answer "YES" and
"NO" to the above question.
SECTION 2. Said "straw vote" election shall be conducted
at the regularly scheduled municipal election of March 9, 1993, at
357 Tequesta Drive, in the Village of Tequesta.
SECTION 3. The voted answer to the "straw vote" question
shall be deemed advisory only, and shall not be binding upon the
Village Council, or the officers and employees of the Village.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its passage.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember,
Mackail who moved its adoption. The motion was
seconded by Councilmember Burckart and upon being
put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and
adopted this 11th day of February, 1993.
