HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_28-90/91_07/18/1991 RESOLUTION NO. 28 -90/91 • A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF A NORTH COUNTY BRANCH OF FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY. WHEREAS, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has grown tremendously over the past several years; and WHEREAS, there presently are over 1,100 students of FAU from the northern part of Palm Beach County attending classes in rented space provided by a high school and an office which have inadequate facilities to properly serve the students' needs; and WHEREAS, space that had been provided at Palm Beach Community College's North Campus is no longer available due to its own overcrowded conditions; and WHEREAS, all enrollment projections indicate the northern part of Palm Beach County will have an increase of 2,150 students by the year 2000; and WHEREAS, the MacArthur Foundation has generously offered a site for a branch campus in the northern Palm Beach County area; and WHEREAS, the local business community of northern Palm Beach County is strongly united in support of the MacArthur site for a FAU Campus and the demographic information lends credence to that campus in northern Palm Beach County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta, Florida, as follows: Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed. Section 2. The Village Council of the Village of Tequesta supports the location of a North Campus for Florida Atlantic University in northern Palm Beach County. Section 3. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the members of the Postsecondary J • Education Planning Commission, Board of Regents, the Palm Beach County Municipal League and the Jupiter - Tequesta -Juno Beach Chamber of Commerce. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Edward C. Howell who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember William E.
