RESOLUTION NO. 10 -90/91
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH
COUNTY, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THAT THE
PALM BEACH COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS CONTINUE TO FUND THE NEW
NORTH COUNTY (TEQUESTA) BRANCH OF THE
PALM BEACH COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, Palm Beach County Resolution No. R -86 -1202
proposed a referendum for Palm Beach County Library Capital
Expansion which referendum was heed November 4, 1986, and was
passed by the e:.-ectors of the Palm Beach County Library Taxing
District; and
WHEREAS, a new North County library was specifically
advertised prior to the Referendum to be constructed from i
revenue receives'. from the one -half mill tax; and
WHEREAS, � levy of one -half mill (50 cents) per thousand
dollars was plac.:ed on all non - exempt valuation within the Palm
Beach County Library Taxing District beginning in 1987 for two
years, for a total revenue received to date of over
$22,000,000; and
WHEREAS, local libraries are a critical contibuting
factor to the f:ducational, cultural, and economic health of a
community; both immediately and in the future; and,
WHEREAS, ;.1 vital part of a child's development is to
learn to appreiiate books and the collective historical and
cultural knowle+lge contained in nooks, and that a benefit to
the community ind to society in general occurs from the
education of its members; and,
WHEREAS, l oquesta, Jupiter, Jupiter Inlet Colony and
unincorporated 'alm Beach County residents will experience a
decrease in l4v level of service if the North County
branches are cc:i:solidated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
• Section 1. The Village Council strongly requests the
Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners to continue
to support the new North County library branch as was
promised in the , ..986 referendum.
Section 2. The Village Counc further requests that the
Palm Beach Cou:ity Board of County Commissioners direct staff
to continue to operate the existing North County facility,
until a new Nort:s County (Tequesta) branch is constructed.
Section 3. The Village Council of the Village of
Tequesta hereby assures the Palm Beach County Board of County
Commissioners that the Village will continue to work with Palm
Beach County S!iiff to minimize the capital and operating costs
of the new North County facility.
Section 4. The Village Clerk is hereby requested to
transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Palm Beach
County Board of County Commissioners.
THE FOREGOI1,G RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember
Ho well who moved its adoption. The Resolution was
seconded by Coincilmember Mackail and upon being
put to a vote, tie vote was as follows:
