AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2. ADMINISTRATION. AT
ARTICLE V. ELECTIONS. AT DIVISION 2. PERSONNEL. BY REPEALING
SECTION 2-251. INSPECTORS. AND READOPTING IT WITH A NEW
TITLE TO PROVIDE THAT INSPECTORS OR OTHER ELECTION
WORKERS FOR VILLAGE ELECTIONS SHALL BE ELECTORS OF THE
VILLAGE WHENEVER POSSIBLE, AND CORRECTING A SCRIVENER'S
ERROR; PROVIDING THAT EACH AND EVERY OTHER SECTION AND
SUB-SECTION OF CHAPTER 2. ADMINISTRATION. SHALL REMAIN IN
FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED; PROVIDING A
CONFLICTS CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND AUTHORITY TO
CODIFY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Village Council desires to amend Section 2-251. entitled
"Inspectors" in order to avoid having to pass a resolution every year to allow the Village to
hire inspectors or other election workers for municipal elections even though they are not
qualified voters in the Village if sufficient electors can not be found; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council believes this revision to its Code of Ordinances to
be in the best interests of the health, safety and welfare of its citizens and the general
public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1: Chapter 2. Administration. of the Code of Ordinances of the Village of
Tequesta is hereby amended at Article V. Elections. at Division 2. Personnel. by repealing
Section 2-251. and readopting it as revised to provide for a revision which would allow the
Village to hire inspectors and other election workers who are not qualified electors of the
Village if a sufficient number of such qualified workers are not available; providing that
Sec.2-251. shall hereafter read as follows]
Sec. 2-251. Inspectors; other election workers.
The Village Clerk shall at least 30 days prior to any general or special election
appoint or hire as many inspectors of election or other election workers as deemed

necessary, who shall, whenever possible, be qualified voters in the Village, and it shall be
their duty to open and close the polls. The inspectors of election and/or other election
workers shall assist the Clerk in the conduct of the election.
Section 2: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict be and the same are
hereby repealed.
Section 3: Should any Section or provision of this Ordinance or any portion
thereof, any paragraph, sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction
to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this Ordinance.
Section 4: Specific authority is hereby granted to codify this Ordinance.
Section 5: This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage.
Upon First Reading this 10th day of January, 2008, the foregoing Ordinance was
offered by Council Member Amero who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by
Council Member Paterno and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

Upon Second Reading this 14th day of February, 2008, the foregoing Ordinance
was offered by Council Member Amero who moved its adoption. The motion was
seconded by Vice-Mayor Watkins and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Ordinance duly passed and adopted this 14th day
of February, 2008.
