HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_07-83/84_05/22/1984 RESOLUTION NO. 7'-- ER''/84 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, STATING ITS SUPPORT OF A MORE STRINGENT ENFORCEMENT OF OUR CRIMINAL LAWS SO [AS TO MAKE THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA AND THE STATE: OF FLORIDA A MORE SAFE AND PLEASURABLE AREA IN WHICH TO RESIDE; PROVIDING THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SENT TO THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE OF THE CIRCUIT COURT IN AND FOR PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Teauesta, Florida, is concerned about the crime in the Village as well as throughout the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is concerned that the present criminal justice system is not dealing effectively with this problem; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is of the opinion that the rights of victims of crime and in particular, victims of violent crime, should be considered in sentencing and providing for the parole of persons convicted under our criminal justice system; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is of the opinion that those convicted of violent crimes should be required to provide restitution to their victims. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF HE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, THAT: a Section 1: The Village Council urges the judges sitting in the criminal courts in Palm Beach County to impose the most stringent sentence permitted by law upon those convicted of crime within this county and that those individuals not be granted parole prior to their serving heir complete sentence. Further, the Village Council would request that lea bargains be used only in a limited number of cases when special ircumstances warrant such a plea arrangement. The Village Council would also like to be on record as supporting the concept that those convicted of violent crime be required to pay restitution to their victims. Section 2_ The Village Clerk is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to the Chief Administrative Judge of the Criminal ivision of the Circuit Court in and for Palm Beach County, Florida. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Ccuncilmember ". 1agar who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Lee M.
