HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_06-83/84_02/28/1984 RESOLUTION NO. 6 -83/84 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, OPPOSING A PROPOSED STATE LEGISLATIVE BILL INTRODUCED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES GROWTH MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TITLED THE "MUNICIPAL SUNSET" BILL WHEREAS, this proposed legislative bill threatens the existence of 20 small Palm Beach Countv cities under 5,000 population; and WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta falls in this category; and WHEREAS, such a proposal to consolidate or merge small cities into larger cities would destroy the independence, self - government, individuality, and character of Tequesta; and WHEREAS, Tequesta provides efficient village services to our citizens, and cooperates with Palm Beach County government and state and federal agencies in maintaining our services to a high standard of depend- ability; and WHEREAS, any usurpation of our Tequesta Charter would jeopardize our services and destroy our right of home rule in providing efficient local government. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Sectio 1 . In behalf of the people of Tequesta, the Village Council officially declares its opposition to the proposed "Municipal Sunset" bill. Section 2 . Copies of this Resolution shall be sent to all members of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, the Governor and his Cabinet, members of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, the Palm Beach County Municipal League, the Florida League of Cities, members of the Partin County Commission, the Loxahatchee Council of Governments, and the Mayors of Jupiter Inlet Colony and Juno Beach. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Thomas J. Little who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember W Harvey Mapes, Jr. and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Lee M. Brown Thomas J. Little W. Harvey Mapes, Jr. Carlton D. Stoddard William E. Wagar The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and adopted this 28th day of February 1984. MAYOR OF TEQUESTA Carlton D.
