A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
PERMANENT CONTINUANCE OF SCHEDULED BRIDGE
OPENINGS Oil INDIANTOWN ROAD (STATE ROAD 706)
AT THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Coast Guard's experimental time scheduled bridge
openings on Indiantown Road (SR 706) have helped greatly to relieve long lines
of backed -up vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, the danger of blocking emergency vehicles -- fire, police
and ambulance -- has been measurably relieved by the scheduled bridge openings;
and
WHEREAS, the inconvenience, fuel wastage, exhaust air pollution, and
economic cost to the public of backing up hundreds of vehicles at the bridge
over the Intracoastal Waterway far outweighs the inconvenience to private
boaters who are far fewer in number; and
WHEREAS, the sixty (60) day temporary continuance of scheduled
bridge openings should be made permanent;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1 . That the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta,
Florida, strongly endorse and support the Town of Jupiter's effort to obtain
authorization by the U.S. Coast Guard of a permanent schedule of timed openings
of the aforesaid bridge on Indiantown Road.
Section 2 . That Tequesta's Village Manager be authorized to send
this resolution to Captain William Kime, U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Building,
51 Southwest First Avenue, Miami, Florida 33130, with a covering letter signed
by the Mayor of Tequesta.
Se ction 3 . That the U.S. Coast Guard also, and for the same reasons,
be urged to adopt a plan of scheduled bridge openings on U.S. Highway 1 at the
Loxahatchee River, properly timed and sequenced to fit scheduled bridge openings
on Indiantown Road.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember
Thomas J. Beddow , who moved its adoption. The Resolution was
seconded by Councilmember _ Thomas J. Little _and upon being put to a
vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and adopted
this 24 day of January , 1984.
