A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA
REQUESTING THAT FLORIDA STATE FUNDING FOR BEACH
RESTORATION IN NORTHERN PALM BEACH COUNTY BE
REINSTATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUEST OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
WHEREAS, severe beach erosion and damage to dunes has:
1. Necessitated emergency construction of temporary protective
barriers by affected property owners, and
2. Has threatened sand dunes which provide a critical barrier
against flooding in our community from Jupiter Inlet north
to the Martin County line, and
3. Has exposed the Loxahatchee River to the danger of blockage
from deposits at Jupiter Inlet, and
4. Has created a hazard to the beach and dunes in the new Blowing
Rocks Beach Park to be constructed this summer in our community
area by Palm Beach County, and
WHEREAS, erosion is expected to continue with further damage to
dunes and property, and reduction of beach area available to the general public,
and
WHEREAS, the Jupiter Inlet District has secured state funding for
renourishing the beach south of the Jupiter Inlet with material pumped from
the inlet for the past 18 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA:
Section 1
1. That the area beaches are a national and state resource and thus
restoration funding should be largely provided at that level.
2. That beach conditions and damage to dunes are critical at
present, and without restoration will deteriorate further in
the future.
• • •
3. That the public beach, just south of the Jupiter Inlet, that
has been renourished by the Jupiter Inlet District for the
past decades, with funding assistance from the State of Florida
for the past 18 years, is also a critical area.
4. That the state funding requested by the Department of Natural
Resources, should be provided.

this resolution to Governor Graham, members of the Palm Beach
