HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_05-82/83_02/08/1983 RESOLUTION NO. 5 -82/83 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING MARCH 19, 1983 AS EQUAL OPPORTUNITY DAY. WHEREAS, there exists a need to bring about equality of opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, color or creed; and recognizing that "Everybody deserves a chance to make it on their own ....EVERYBODY," and WHEREAS, the Urban League of Palm Beach County, Incorporated, was established on February 25, 1974 as a community service agency working to achieve equality of opportunity for blacks and other minority and disadvantaged groups; and WHEREAS, there exists a need to arouse the moral consciousness of the public as to the barriers and restrictions that still prevent some Americans from achieving their full potential and to influence the development of favorable attitudes toward equal opportunity; and WHEREAS, Equal Opportunity Day is a time for reflection and a reminder of the struggle to bring about equality of opportunity for every American; and WHEREAS, on March 19, 1983 the Urban League will host its Eighth Annual Equal Opportunity Dinner; and WHEREAS, the Urban League of Palm Beach County is to be commended for its dedication to bringing about equality for all county residents, regardless of age, religion, education, income, race, color or creed; and WHEREAS, the Village Council of Tequesta, Florida, endorses and supports the concept of equal opportunity as set forth herein; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, assembled in regular session this 8th day of February, 1983, that March 19, 1983 is hereby proclaimed as "EQUAL OPPORTUNITY DAY" in the Village of Tequesta, Florida, to further the American principle that we are created equal. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Carlton D. Stoddard , who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember Lee M. Brown and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Thomas J. Beddow Lee M. Brown Thomas J. Little W.H. Mapes, Jr. Carlton D.
