RESOLUTION NO. 21 -81/8
A RESOLUTION REGARDING 112 CENT SALES TAX DISTRIBUTION
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature has enacted House Bill
HD -54, ch. 82 -154, Laws of Florida, creating an additional one -cent
sales tax and providing for distribution of same back to the
municipalities on a per capita basis; and
WHEREAS, this Legislation also imposed an ad valorem
millage restriction on municipalities participating in the sales
tax distribution; and
WHEREAS, this distribution formula coupled with the
millage cap creates a substantial inequity and hardship on communi-
ties that have high sales tax collections but a disproportionately
low number of residents; and
WHEREAS, this has resulted in these municipalities receiving
disproportionate amount of revenue from the sales tax distribution
nd being unable to raise their millage to meet increasing costs of
providing municipal services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
HE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Florida Legislature is hereby urged
to immediately amend the sales tax distribution formula to more
quitably return sales tax dollars to municipalities as described
above; the new formula to be based on as sessed valua tion as well as
p opulation.
Section 2 . That the Florida Legislature is further urged
to remove or raise the millage cap so that the municipalities can
ontinue to provide appropriate municipal services.
Section 3 . That copies of this Resolution be sent to
he Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida and to each member
f the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation..
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember
Thomas J. Beddow , who moved its adoption. The Resolu-
tion was seconded by Councilmember Carlton D. Stoddard and
upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:
