HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_14-81/82_05/11/1982 RESOLUTION NO 14 - A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA OPPOSING CASINO GAMBLING IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA WHEREAS, a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution to permit the operation of state - regulated privately -owned gambling casinos in Dade and Broward Counties was rejected by the voters of Florida in 1978, by a margin of more than one million votes; and WHEREAS, another proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution to permit casino gambling in Florida is now in circulation; and WHEREAS, casino gambling is associated with unsavory and criminal activities which blight communities and destroy the quality of life now enjoyed in Florida; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1 . The Village of Tequesta Council hereby declares its opposition to any amendment to the Florida Constitution permitting casino gambling in the State of Florida. Section 2 . The Village Clerk shall deliver copies of this resolution by mail to the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida, the presiding officers of the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, each member of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, each member of the Palm Beach County Commission, and each municipality in Palm Beach County. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Thomas J. Beddow who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember Thomas J. Little , and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Thomas J. Beddow Lee M. Brown Thomas J. Little Carlton D.
