HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_13-79/80_06/24/1980 RESOLUTION NO. 13 -79/80 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY; SUPPORTING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICANT PROCESSING CENTER AND ENCOURAGING COUNTY FUNDING OF THE CENTER; SUPPORT- ING SPECIAL LEGISLATION OR A LOCAL ORDINANCE OPTION TO ENABLE PALM BEACH COUNTY TO GENERATE REVENUE FROM FINES AND FORFEITURES TO CONTINUE FUNDING THE PROGRAM; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it appears that the Palm Beach County Law Enforcement Applicant Processing Center is in danger of losing its funding as a result of a decrease in expenditures by the federal government; and WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta supports the Palm Beach County Law Enforcement Applicant Processing Center and desires to assure its continued operation; and WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta supports the effort of the Palm Beach County Police Chiefs Association to sponsor special legis- lation or a local ordinance option which would allow the imposition of an additional $1.00 fee on all fines and forfeitures in order to continue funding the program; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Section 1 . The Village of Tequesta hereby declares its support for the Palm Beach County Law Enforcement Applicant Processing Center and encourages the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County to continue the financing of this program in the event federal Law Enforcement Assistance Administration funding is terminated. Sectio 2. The Village of Tequesta supports continuing the program in the event federal funding is unavailable, by the imposition of an additional $1.00 fee on all fines and forfeitures, which fee shall be adopted either through a special act of the Florida Legislature or on the basis of a local ordinance adopted by Palm Beach County and the incorporated municipalities therein. Section 3 . The Village Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish copies of this resolution to each member of the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County and to John E. Duvall, Assistant County Administrator, 307 North Dixie Highway, Pan - American Building /Suite 330, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401. Section 4 . This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Carlton D. Stoddard , who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember Leslie A. Cook and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Leslie A. Cook ' W.H. Mapes, Jr. Carlton D.
