A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
AND URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO ESTABLISH SCHEDULES FOR
DRAWBRIDGE OPENINGS FOR THOSE DRAWBRIDGES
WITHIN THE TEQUESTA- JUPITER AREA
WHEREAS, we live in an era when energy costs, especially for
gasoline and diesel fuel are escalating at an unheard of rate; and
WHEREAS, the residents of the Tequesta- Jupiter area are all
aware of the necessity of conserving our gasoline and diesel supplies;
and
WHEREAS, the traffic in the Tequesta- Jupiter area is constantly
stopped and backed up in long lines at the approaches to the various
drawbridges in the area while waiting for small water craft to pass under
the bridges; and
WHEREAS, the traffic stopped at the drawbridges uses a considerable
amount of gasoline and diesel fuel while quite often waiting for single
small water craft to pass under the drawbridges; and
WHEREAS, it is believed that a considerable amount of gasoline
and diesel fuel could be saved if the drawbridges were opened to water
craft traffic at scheduled openings as is done in other areas of the State
of Florida.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA:
Section 1 . That the Florida Department of Transportation take
the necessary action to provide for the scheduling of opening times for
the following drawbridges within the Tequesta - Jupiter area:
1. Bridge across the Intracoastal Waterway on State
Road 707, Tequesta, Florida.
2. Bridge across the Intracoastal Waterway on
U.S. Highway No. 1 (State Road 5), Jupiter, Florida.
3. Bridge across the Intracoastal Waterway on State
Road 706 (Indiantown Road), Jupiter, Florida.
Section 2 . That the Village Clerk is directed to forward a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Board of County Commissioners -
Palm Beach County, Board of County Commissioners - Martin County, Commission -
Town of Jupiter, Commission- Jupiter Inlet Colony, Commission -Town of Juno
Beach and Loxahatchee Council of Governments (COG).
Section 3 . That the Loxahatchee Council of Governments (COG)
is hereby urged and requested to pursue this matter with the appropriate
governmental agencies and officials for the benefit of the residents of
the Tequesta- Jupiter area.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember
Carlton D. Stoddard who moved its adoption. The Resolution
was seconded by Councilmember Thomas J. Little and upon
being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and
adopted this 18 day of March , A.D., 1980.
