A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE LEGALIZATION OF CASINO
GAMBLING IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND URGING THE CITIZENS
OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA TO VOTE THEIR CONSCIENCES
ACCORDINGLY ON THIS ISSUE AT THE NOVEMBER GENERAL
ELECTION
WHEREAS, the voters in South Florida will have the opportunity
to vote at the November, 1978, general election on the issue of whether
casino gambling shall be legalized in South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council believes that the legalization of
casino gambling will not be in the best public interest, and will only
serve to attract more of the organized criminal element that is already
present in the South Florida area; and
WHEREAS, the legalization of casino gambling will accordingly
increase the problems of law enforcement agencies; and
WHEREAS, legalized gambling will create a multitude of social,
economic, moral and community problems; and
WHEREAS, the legalization of casino gambling will discourage
the desired influx of clean and light industry into South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the legalization of casino gambling will not enhance
the image of the State of Florida nor, more particularly, Broward and
Dade Counties as family- oriented tourist areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA:
Section 1 . That the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta
hereby expresses its strong opposition to the legalization of casino
gambling for the South Florida area.
Section 2 . That the citizens of the Village of Tequesta are
urged to carefully consider all aspects of this matter before voting on
same at the November, 1978 general election, and to vote their consciences
accordingly.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember
James H. Ryan , who moved its adoption. The Resolution was
seconded by Councilmember Joseph D. Yoder,Jr and upon being put to
a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Mayor thereupon declared the Resolution duly passed and
adopted this _ 24 day of October , A.D., 1978.
