HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_05-77/78_02/28/1978 RESOLUTION NO. - 5-77/78 A RESOLUTION PROTESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (DNR) ANNOUNCED BAN OF 10 OR MORE HORSEPOWER MOTORS, AND THE THREATENED BAN ON ALL MOTOR BOATS, ON THE NAVIGABLE WATERS OF THE LOXAHATCHEE RIVER AS IT PASSES THRU THE JONATHAN DICKINSON STATE PARK. WHEREAS, one of the most valuable assets of Tequesta property holders is the availability and enjoyment of the Loxahatchee River; and WHEREAS, many residents of Tequesta have purchased and own boats to further their use and enjoyment of the river; and WHEREAS, many boaters and their friends have for years used and enjoyed the scenic beauty of the river as it passes from Trapper Nelsons to the ocean; and WHEREAS, the DNR has arbitrarily prohibited the use of boats with motors larger than 10 HP, and further, has threatened the future prohibition of all boats in the navigable portion of the river as it passes thru the Park boundaries NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Section 1 . That the Village acknowledges the right of the Park to establish reasonable regulations as to speed, noise and pollution - applying to all users of the navigable river as it passes thru the Park - to protect the health and welfare of all such users and the environs of the Park. Section 2 . That the Village protests the banning of boats or motors owned by the public - or the limiting of boats or motors only to those owned by the Park or its concessionaires. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was offered by Councilmember Joseph D. Yoder, Jr., who moved its adoption. The Resolution was seconded by Councilmember Stenh and upon being put to R_ Hituainc a vote, the vote was as follows: FOR ADOPTION AGAINST ADOPTION Howard F Brown, W. Harvey Mapes, Jr Joseph D.
