HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_03-69/70_04/21/1970 RESOLUTION NO. 3-69Z70 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCILMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE CONSTRUC- TION OF IMPROVEMENTS ON PEANUT ISLAND, LOCATED IN THE WATERS OF LAKE WORTH, WHICH WILL PERMIT COMMERCIAL AND MULTI - FAMILY, HIGH -RISE RESI- DENTIAL USES THEREON. WHEREAS, Peanut Island has been used for recreational purposes by boaters, fishermen, skin divers and campers for approximately the past thirty (30) years; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners of the Port of Palm Beach have leased the Island to private interests as an oceanographic site; and WHEREAS, it is believed any commercial development of Peanut Island other than for the development of an oceanographic center would deprive the residents of Palm Beach County and tourists of the use of the Island as • a recreational facility; NOW, THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, as follows: Section 1. The Village of Tequesta Council, on behalf of them- selves and the citizens of the Village of Tequesta, do hereby oppose the development of Peanut Island, located in the waters of Lake Worth, in any manner which would permit commercial facilities and /or multi - family, high - rise residences. Section 2. The Village of Tequesta Council, on behalf of them- selves and the citizens of the Village of Tequesta, do not oppose the development of an oceanographic center on Peanut Island. Section 3. The Village of Tequesta Council, on behalf of them- selves and the citizens of the Village of Tequesta, recommend and urge the • Commissioners of the Port of Palm Beach District to permit the development of Peanut Island mainly for public recreational purposes. Section 4.
