HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution_02-68_02/18/1969 RESOLUTIONN N0. 2 -65 • A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUEST.A, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE BOARD OF COUNTY CMUSSIONERS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO URGE THE FLORIDA STATE ROAD DEPART: \T TO INSTALL A TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF STATE ROAD NO. 5 (U. S. HIGHWAY NO. 1).A'ID STATE ROAD 707. Iv'I-IEREAS, with the iminent completion of the new bridge across the Intracoastal %aterway on State Road 707, an additional large flow of traffic onto State Road No. 5 (U. S. Highi•;ay Yo. 1) will be created through the increased use of this bridge by residents of the Town of Jupiter Island in Martin County; and UNEREAS, the number of residents currently residing on the southern part of Jupiter Island in Palm Beach County has greatly increased and the number of residents is sharply increasing with the construction • and occupancy of the high -rise condominiums on Jupiter Island; and I MEREAS, with the growth of the northern part of Palm Beach County and the southern part of Martin County, the traffic on State Road No. 5 (U. S. Highway No. 1) and the intersection with State Road Igo. 707 has grown to a density sufficient to create a steady flow of high speed traffic, thereby creating a serious and dangerous traffic hazard for motorists entering onto State Road No, 5 (U. S. Highway No. 1) from State Road No. 707 and the motorists travelling both north and south on State Road No. 5 (U. S. Highway No. 1); and 1vHEREAS, the Palm Beach County School Buses exit onto State Road No. 5 (U. S. Highway No. 1) from State Road 707 five (5) times daily on school days during peak traffic times while transporting school children; \OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCI U1EN OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA; That the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, Florida, be requested to strongly urge the Florida State Road Department to install, without delay, a traffic control signal at the intersection of State Road No. 5 (U, S. Highway :o. 1) and State Road 707 to alleviate the severe traffic and hazardous conditions which will be in existence upon the completion of the new bridge. • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Village of Tequesta, Florida be, and is hereby directed to send certified copies of this Resolution to.
