it has come to the attention of the Councilmen of the
Village of Tequesta, Florida, that the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers
has a plan to provide drainage of Southeast Martin County citrus and
farmlands by use of the Loxahatchee River, consisting of the North Fork,
the Northwest Fork and the South Fork, as a canal drainage ditch; and
WHERrAS., the entire Loxahatchee River is a popular and favorite
spot with many sportsmen, both local and visitors to the great State of
Florida; and
UNMIM, the Village Councilmen believe the proposed plan would
adversely affect the natural beauty of the Loxahatchee River; and
S, there is approximately 15,000 feet of property, both
developed and undeveloped, along the various forks of the Loxahatchee
River located within the Territorial Limits of the Village of Tequesta,
Florida;
NOV TMMFZ, BE IT RESOLVED By THS VILLAGE COUNCILMEN OF
THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FIDRIU, that the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers
be urged to withhold further action on their plans for the drainage of
Southeast Martin County citrus and farmlands by using the Loxahatchee
River as a part of the drainage plan, so that the natural beauty of the
Loxahatchee River will not be spoiled and the fish and animal wildlife lo-
cated in and along the Loxahatchee River will not be destroyed for the
public.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Village Council
be, and he is hereby, directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution
• to Congressman Paul Rogers, Washington, D.C.; District Zold veer, U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida; Walter A. Gresh, Regional Dir-
ector, United States Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service,
Atlanta, Georgia; N. E. "Bill" Miller, Director, State of Florida Board
of Parks, Tallahassee, Florida; Dr. 0. E. Frye, Jr., Director, State of
Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, Tallahassee, Florida;
Randolph Hodges, Director, Florida Board of Conservation, Tallahassee,
Florida; and F. C. Dail, Executive Director, Central and Southern Florida
Flood Control District, West Palm Beach, Florida.
