COUNCIIWN OF THE VILLAGE OF TEOUESTA, FLORIDA
A Public Hearing was held by the Councilmen of the Village of
Tequesta on Tuesday, November 12, 1963 at 8:00 P.M. at the Church of
the Good Shepherd, Seabrook Road, Tequesta, Florida, for the purpose
of considering amending the Village of Tequesta Zoning Ordinance No.
43. Councilmen present were: Messrs. Valier, Bowden, Stewart and
Turnbull. Also present were Attorney William A. Lord and Robert
Harp, Clerk.
Mayor Valier stated the meeting had been postponed from October
8, 1963 and was being held to consider amending the Village Zoning
Ordinance to establish districts where intoxicating liquors, wines
and beverages could be sold for on premises consumption and to esta-
blish a minimums distance between businesses selling such intoxicating
beverages from churches, schools and youth centers.
The Clerk read the Minutes of the previous meeting held September
10, 1963.
There were no objections to limiting the distance from churches,
schools and youth centers where intoxicating beverages could be sold
for on premises consumption but Mr. George Kahle and Mrs. Jennie Ziegler
both stated they believed U. S. Highway No. 1 to be a different comm-
ercial area than that west of the F. E. C. Railroad and that a lesser
distance should be used east of the Florida East Coast Railroad and
the distance should be measured from door to door (main entrance).
Further discussion ensued as to the various distances and methods
of measuring such distances with the general feeling of the Councilmen
being that U. S. Highway No. 1 was and will continue to be much more
commercialized than other portions of the Village and this fact has
to be considered. Following the discussion, Mr. Bowden moved that
all places of business selling intoxicating liquors, wines and beverages
for on premises consumption be located a distance of at least one thou-
sand (1,000) feet from any church, school or youth center in that part
of the Village lying west of the Florida East Coast Railroad and be
located a distance of at least five hundred feet from any church, school,
or youth center in that part of the Village lying east of the Florida
East Coast Railroad. Said distances to be measured from door (main
entrance) to door (main entrance). Motion was seconded by Mr. Stewart.
The vote on the motion was as follows:
Valier - For
Bowden - For
Stewart - For
Turnbull - For
Motion unanimously passed.

reflecting the decision of the Council at this Public Hearing
