HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Regular_04/10/1962 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCILMEN OF IHE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA At 9 :30 A.M., Tuesday, April 10, 1962, the regular monthly meeting of the Councilmen of the Village of Tequesta was held at the Tequesta Country Club. Councilmen present were- Messrs. Cornelius, Lathrop, Turnbull and Bowden. Also present were Village Manager Harp, Village Attorney Lord, Police Chief Dahlmeyer and Police and Fire Commissioner Sutton, Mayor Cornelius opened the meeting and called for the Clerk to administer the Oath of Office to the Councilmen elected at the General Election held March 20, 1962. Village Clerk Robert harp administered the Oath of Office to Councilmen Cecil Cornelius, Thomas V. Turnbull, and George E. Bowden.. Signed Oaths of Office are attached to these minutes. Mayor Cornelius advised that the chair was open for nominations for the Village officers for the coming year. Mr. Lathrop moved, seconded by Mr. Bowden that the following- officers be elected for the coming year: MAYOR CECIL CORNELIUS VICE -MAYOR ROBERT C. VALIER TREASURER WALTER F. LAaFIROP TAX ASSESSOR THOTvIAS V. TURNBTLL TAX COLLECTOR GEORGE E. BOWDEN CLERK ROBERT HARP VILLAGE MANAGER ROB?�RT HARP The slate of officers as presented was unanimously approved and signed Oaths of Office are attached to these minutes. Turnbull moved, seconded by Bowden that checks of the Bank of Palm Beach and Trust Company be signed by the Village Treasurer and/or the Village Clerk and one (1) councilman; that signatures of Mayor and Clerk be authorized for borrowing of moneys; same signature requirements to be required for account at the Community Federal Savings and Loan Assn. Motion passed. Lathrop moved, seconded by Turnbull that the Treasurer t s report and expenditures for the month of March 1962 be accepted. Motion passed. The Treasurer's report showed the following balances at March 31, 1962: General Fund $35 ,745.30 Beautification Fund 1,273.96 Capital Replacement Fund 750.00 X17,769.26 Upon motion by Turnbull and seconded by Bowden, the tax assessment roll for 1962 showing taxable valuation of 17,708,064.00 om which 1962 taxes will be assessed was approved and adopted. Lathrop moved, seconded by Bowden that :a Progress Report on the growth and activities of the Village, as suggested by the Village 1Vianager to inform the residents of these activities, be sent to all residents and property owners in the Village. Motion was passed. A discussion was held on the holding of night meetings and Bowden moved, seconded by Lathrop that one night meeting be held each quarter Minutes of Council Meeting, April 10, 1962 Wage 2 wont, said meetings to be held at 7 :30 P.M. on the second Tuesday in iIay, August, November and February. Motion was passed. The May night meeting will be held Tuesday, May 8, 1962 at 7 :30 p.M. at the parish hall of the Church of the Good Shepherd on Seabrook Road. Mr. Bowden advised council of various complaints which he had heard recently and it was opinion of Council that most of the complaints had been answered in the ^roposed progress report. Upon motion by Lathrop, seconded by Bowden and passed, Police Commissioner Sutton was authorized to purchase necessary traffic control signs for Jupiter in the Pines section of the Village. Police Chief Dahlmeyer's report for month of March 1962 was read. Upon motion by Lathrop, seconded by Turnbull and passed, the following were appointed to the offices named: Police and Fire Commissioner John R. Sutton, Jr. Police Uhief 1 1 "iard P. Dahlmeyer Police Patrolman Lou Laliberte Village Attorney !William A. I:ord (t "'inters, Cook Brackett and Lord) Mayor Cornelius appointed Mr. Bowden as publicity Chairman. Copies of proposed Subdivision Regulations as prepared by George W. Simons, Jr. were presented to the Councilmen for their study and will be discussed further at a later date. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11 :25 A. Assessement of this develop- o ment (60 lots) would be a taxable value of 176 660.00. Valuatin of Southern Bell Telephone Co property is 128,360.00. Tax exempt property in the Village is a follows, Heath Property on the River Johnson Property on the River Good Shepherd Episcopal Church $20,000.00 First United Prebsyterian Church 8,100.00 Village Hall Site 5,000.00 Total Valuation including Ridgewood Homes $ 7.708.064.00 Trusting these assessements will meet with your approval, so that we can draw up the tax assessement roll for 1962.
