OF THE COUNCID -MR OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA
A special meeting of the Councilmen of the Village of Tequesta was held
Monday, August 26, 1963, at 10:00 A.M. at the Village Office in Village
Square Shopping Center. Councilmen present were Messrs. Bowden, Stewart,
Cornelius and Turnbull. Also present was Robert Harp.
Councilman Bowden, Vice Mayor, acting in the abscence of Mayor Valier,
advised that the meeting had been called to discuss the Real Estate Tax
Millage of 1963. The Charter requires the millage to be set by September 1,
of each year.
A very thorough and comprehensive discussion of a proposed budget for
1963 -1964 presented by the Village Manager ensued. The budget as presented
showed anticipated expenses as follows:
Administrative $22,250.00
Office 7,900.00
Public Safety 27,100.00
Streets, Sidewalks and Parks 11,700.00
Operating Expenses $68,950.00
Deposits to Special Funds $ 6,000.00
Sinking lAmd & Interest 9,350.00
$84,300.00
Following a discussion on the anticipated expenses, proposed capital pur-
chases of $4,100.00, including $3,100.00 for the Police Department Car,
Radio, etc., were thought to be expenditures to be made from the Special
Capital Account and should be removed from Public Safety Expense and Office
Expense, leaving these balances as $24,000. and $6,900.00 respectively.
Anticipated income from various sources excluding Real Estate Taxes is
estimated to be $58,300.00 leaving a balance of $26,000.00 needed if the
proposed budget is accepted.
The Councilmen deferred action on final adoption of the budget but
could readily see that the expanded police department would increase the
Public Safety Expense in excess of $8,000.00 excluding purchase of an addi-
tional police car and police car radio.
Mr. Cornelius moved, seconded by Turnbull that the 1963 Real Estate
Tax Millage be set at 3 nulls, an increase of 1 mill over 1962, on the
oasis of the increase in cost of the expanded police department. Motion
passed and Clerk was instructed to so notify Tax Assessor so that he could
proceed with the assessment and extension of the tax assessment roll.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, the
meeting was adjourned at 11 :40 A.M.
Respectfully submitted
