HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Regular_10/13/1959 MINUTES OF THE COUNCILMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA At 9:35 AM, Tuesday, October 13, 1959 the regular monthly meeting of the Councilmen of the Village of Tequesta was held at the Village Office at Village Square'Shopping` Center, Tequesta, Florida. Those present were: John P. Kurtz, Walter F. Lathrop, Albert D. Alderman, Zeke Cornelius, Thomas H. Daly and Robert Harp, Minutes of - the regular meeting of September S, 1959 and of the special meeting of September 17, 1959 were read and approved. Mayor Kurtz reported that the services of Mrs. Marion Cromwell had been secured as Judge of the Village Court of Tequesta. Robert Harp will arrange for swearing in and taking of pictures of ceremony. A general discussion was held on lighting of sign and island at entrance located at U.S Rt #1 and Tequesta Drive. 'Mr. Harp reported a bid of $138.00 from Atlantic Electric Co, for lighting si gn. It was the feeling of the Council that the entire island should - be lighted and Mr. Alderman was unanimously approved to secure same, and the sum of $250.00 was approved for this project. It was unanimously agreed that all new property owners annexed into the Village of Tequesta should be sent a letter welcoming them as new addition to the Village. Mr. Lathrop reported that the shop owners of Village Square Shopping'Center are working together to promote business in the area_, and he felt that since the area is in the Village of Tequesta, that the - Village should take a financial interest in the project - "as an dverall promotion the Village of Tequesta. Mr. Lathrop - is to get prices and suggestions from Charles M. Higgins'Agency: Council felt that advertising of the Village of Tequesta is quite important. The Courcil'unanimously approved the Village using the engineering services of Colonel Thomas L. Mackey whenever engineering advice will be needed. The - Clerk read the agreement for conveying Bridge Road to Village of Tequesta from Palm Beach County on the Zieglers, and it was subject to approval by legal counsel for Village Attorney William A. Lord. The Clerk reported . on - _Cecupatiorial - Licenses and fees and - .suggested - that` all businesses pay a flat fee $10.00 effective October:I3 1959 to October 13, 1960. These - fees will'apply to domiciled businesses and will not, include contractors, sub contractors,, etc. who already are set up at 50.00 a year. The suggestion was unanimously approved. The rates for Real - Estate Brokers is to be $10.00 per broker and $5.00__ for each salesman for the same effective period. It was and unanimously agreed that Rinker Materials Corp. and Maine Industries.. Inc, be required to purchase an occupational license for sum of $50.00 effective October 13, 1959 to October 13, 1960. The is - to ask legal counsel William A# Lord what is status of railroad property at Rinker Materials Corp, where land on both sides is in the Village of Tequesta. They are to be notified to clear building off and cease and desist doing business. The OW is to advise the Jupiter Water Company that Chief of Police Dahlmeyer can be called upon in cases where Water Co;apany meter seals are broken and water is used. It was I moved and - - unanimously - agreed to have " "Tequesta Police" painted on sides of'Mr. Lalibertets car and to purchase 3 shirts with shoulder patch ensignia for Mr. Laliberte. Assistant Clerk was authorized to'purchase 1,000 voter registration forms frees H. W.B. Drew Company at cost of $150 - 000 and to purchase necessary book for forms from Halsey & Griffith at cost of approximately $90,000 - Mr. Harp will check with Attorney Lord to set up registration and voting procedures. Mr. Harp discussed the cigarette tax receipts from the state, and stated that he had talked to Mr. Thomas Waits in "the State Beverage Departmeht Tallahassee and had received assurance that a thorough cheek would be made into the status of the Villagefs recent cigarette tax receipts. Mr. Lathrop was asked to contact Mr Hank Keene _persorially anal see if - Fie could get Mr. Keen to remove h s'coistruetion company office from his home in Tequesta. Offices home are a violation of Article IV - USE OF LOTS, as listed in Tequesta Restrictions. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:40 AM.
