HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Regular_07/12/1960 MINUTES OF THE COUNCILMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF TE QUESTA, FLORIDA At 9:30 A. M., Tuesday, July 12, 1960, the regular monthly meeting of the Councilmen of the Village of ' equesta was held at the Village Office in Village Square Shopping Center, Tequesta, Florida. Those present were; Walter F. Lathrop, John P. Kurtz, Zeke Cornelius, Robert Valier, Thomas Daly, Robert Harp, William Jackson and B.V. Correll. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Financial report was presented and approved showing cash balance of $7,281.67 at June 30, 1960. June disbursements approved. (Copies Attached.) A discussion was held on Cigarette Tax Fund. Mr. Correll, from the Florida Power and Light Co. discussed the proposed ordinance granting an Electric Franchise to Florida Power and Light Co. in Village of Tequesta. After complete reading of the proposed ordinance and a thorough discussion of its terms, Mr. Cornelius moved that the ordinance be passed and adopted. Seconded by Mr. valier. Motion was passed unanimously and all councilmen being present, Ordinance No. 33 was thereby passed and adopted at first reading. A discussion was held concerning entrance at US #1 and Tequesta Drive. Council was advised that Mr. Schlusemeyer had not approved P revious plans submitted by Mr. Metz and would further discuss the entrance gate situation with the 1 " Police Chief is to re- quest Turnbullts Service Station to rearrange buttons so that roadway can be more easily seen by motorists. Purchase of the station wagon for Village Police Department was discussed. Various bids, on a new car with trade in, new car without trade -in and on station wagon only were discussed and considered. Mr. Cornelius moved, seconded by Mr. Valier that Village purchase 1957 Ford Station Wagon from Tequesta, Inc. for $762.50, the average value of the station wagon as shown in bids. Motion was unanimously L5assed. A lenghty discussion was held on proposal of Mission Develop - ment Company for sale of 5.38 acres of land to Village of Tequesta at $3,000.00 per acre. The land is located directly west of the present Episcopal Church property on Seabrook Road. It was moved by Mr. Kurtz, seconded by Mr. Cornelius, that the Mayor advise Mr.Lewis of the Mission Development Company, by letter, that the price and terms as outlined in his letter are acceptable to the Council, however, the Village would like time to negotiate for the 'POUTS' before signing a contract. Motion unanimously adopted. Ploice Chief Dahlmeyer was appointed Civil Defense represent- ative for the Village, Mr. Val ier brought up the subject of trash being thrown from cars onto the sides of Village streets. It was moved and unanimously agreed to purchase a couple of TRASH PENALTY signs and have them erected at proper locations and Police Chief is to enfore the signs and apprehend any who may be caught tossing trash. ._. Moved and unanimously agreed that Village should join Association of Municipalities of Palm Beach County with annual dues of $10.00. A letter from A. A. Flanaggn relative to his property in Waterway Village was read. No action taken. A letter grom Jupiter Inlet Beach Colony, Inc. was read to council requesting annexation of the north and south entrance roads to the Village Square Shopping Center in to the Village. Annexation was unanimously approved on condition that roads be placed into acceptable condition to the Village prior to annexation. Annexation ordinance is to be drawn up for next meeting. It was moved and unanimously agreed to purchase the follow- ing Police and First Aid Equipment as recommended by Police.and Fire Commissioner Sutton; Collapsi -Cot Stretcher $120,00 CO2 Fire Extinguisher 35.00 First Aid Kit 25.00 Portable Spot Light 24.00 Axe 11.00 Stricker Splints 50.00 Resuscitator 375.00 Police Uhief Raincoat & Boots 18.00 658.00 Mr, Byron Renninger, Vice President of Jupiter Inlet -beach Colony, Inc. appeared before meeting and advised that Jupiter Water Company had been sold to Mr. George W. Offutt. He also presented an informal request from Mr. Offutt to build water Compamy office on Tequesta Drive with temporary facilities for village meeting hall. Mr. Renninger also advised that Jupiter Inlet Beach Uolony, Inc. would like to receive a license from the Village for operation of a 12 lane bowling alley, plus arrangements for 12 additional alleys which they intend to build. The alleys would be located on the north end of the predent shopping center. The project was wholeheartedly approved and it was moved and un nimously agreed to issue such a license providing such license could be issued allowing a certain number of lanes based upon population. There being no furt:er business, the meeting was adjourned at 11;30 A.M.
