HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Regular_09/06/1960 MINUTES OF THE COUNCILMEN OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA At 9;30 AM Tuesday, September 6, 1960 the regular monthly meet- ing of the councilmen of the Village of Tequesta was held at the Village office in Village Square Shopping Center, Tequesta, Florida. Those present were; Walter F. Lathrop, John P. Kurtz, Thomas H. Daly, Robert harp, Attorney William A. Lord and Bill Jackson. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Financial statement for August 1960 showing balance in General fund of A3,643.81 and Cigarette Tax Fund of $837.04 at August 31, 1960 was read and approved. Ordinance for franchise with Florida Power and Light Company was given second reading upon motion by Mr. Kurtz and seconded by Mr. Daly. Ordinance was passed and adopted on this second reading and was designated as Ordinance No. 33. Ordinance No. 34 providing for licensing of dogs within the territorial limits of Village was given second reading m d unanimous- ly passed and adopted. Ordinance No. 35 annexing the north and south entrance roads to Village Square Shopping Cer ter was unanimously adopted. A motion was made and adopted that name of Tequesta Drive in Country Club Community be changed to Country Club Drive and Mayor was to take necessary steps for this change. 14 ayor showed plans for entrance at US #1 en d Tequesta Drive as prepared by Robert Neal, landscape architect and advised he would turn them over to William Schlusemeyerls office for their considerat- ion. It was the general feeling of Council that Village should con- sider donation to Kiwanis Recreation Park in 1961 Budget. The mayor discussed some points brought to his attention by Mr. Offutt, owner of Jupiter Utility Company, Inc. These points are; 1.) Zone north of Tequesta Drive from Seabrook Rai d to railroad for shopping center area. 2.) Consider purchase of land for municipal marina. 3.) Possible donation of site for Village Hall and Fire and Police departments by Mr. Schlusemeyer, located on Tequesta Drive accross from present shopping center. Mr. Daly was appointed to investigate possible purchase of beach front pnoperty by Village. The Jupiter Utility Company advised that by January 1, 1961, they would meet fire insurance underwriters requirmenets which would lead to reduction in insurance rates. Mr. Sutton, police and Fire Commissioner, is to investigate equipment etc. necessary to obtain this rate reduction. tijayo f- advised that Jupiter Utility Company had turned on light atop water tower at no charge. Page 2- Village of "equesta - September 6, 1960 Clerk is to find out status of installation of approved street lights. Mayor reported that George Simons would zone Village for mini- mum fee of $1,500.00. No action taken. Mr. Valier was appointed Chairman of Zoning Committee.(Subject to his acceptance.) Clerk was instructed to contact Loxahatchee Corporation to see if they would have any objection to giving permanaent right of way from US #1 to Old Dixie Highway, north of Village corporate limit line and immediately in front of properties owned by Jupiter Utility Company and Maynard T. Murray to Villgae. Villgae would maintain road. Mayor advised that Col. Herman V.I. Schull would be willing to be in charge of a committee to represent the Village before the Jupiter Inlet Commission. Council approved this appointment. Mr. Daly will attend County Commissioners meeting September 12 to check on action taken regarding replacement of Hooley Point bridge, Mr. Kurtz advised that he had been contacted by some residents of the Colony about spraying for mosquitoes etc. in the Colony. Attorney Lord advised that the Village would first have to get permission from town council of Jupiter Inlet Colony to avoid any possibility of lawsuits resulting from spraying. Letter from Police Chief Dahlmeyer advising of necessary emergency fire equipment for Village was read and turned over to Police and Fire Commissioner Sutton for his consideration. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10;55 AM.
