HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Miscellaneous_12/18/1984_Community Appearance Board MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA COMMUNITY APPEARANCE BOARD DECEMBER 18, 1984 A meeting of the Village of Tequesta Community Appearance Board was held at 9:00 A. M., Tuesday, December 18., 1984 in the Conference Room of the Building Department, 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida. Board Members present were: Cleveland, Nagle, Ricci, Sundermann, Pierson and Alternate Member, Butterfield. Also present were: Scott D. Ladd, Building Official and Cyrese Colbert, Assistant Clerk of the Board. Chairman Cleveland opened the meeting. One (1) additional item had been received for the Board's consideration since the Notice of the Meeting had been published and distributed. "Wall Coverings and Interiors by Laura" was the additional item. The first item on the Agenda was the re- application of American Awning for a 29 -1/2 foot x 7 -1/2 foot awning for Jupiter- Tequesta Travel, 144 Bridge Road. Owner of the property is Leonhardt - Sullivan. This item had been before the Community Appearance Board at the December 12, 1984 meeting but was denied by a vote of two in favor and one against. Nagle, the desenting vote said he would like the color of the awning to be green. The color of the proposed awning is to be Royal Blue with White Trim. The colors of the Travel Agency is red, white and blue. Several of the Board members suggested that the building be repainted white to go better with the awning. But was advised that the owner had just had the building painted and this would be expensive to do again so quickly. Ricci moved, "to approve the plans as submitted." Sundermann seconded and vote on the motion was: Cleveland - for Nagle - Against Ricci - for Sundermann - for Pierson - for Butterfield - Against and therefore the motion was passed and adopted. The next item on the Agenda was the application of Carl Toth (Antiques) for three (3) Signs for 239 U.S. Highway No. 1. Owner of the property is Capital Management Associations, Inc. Mr. Toth was present to present his application to the Board. The application was for three (3) Signs. One sign Minutes of Community Appearance Board December 18, 1984 Page 2 - ----------------------------------------- is to be 2' x V and two of the signs are to be 2' x 7 The signs would be painted cranberry letters on light tan background. The signs will be ins- talled on canopy above store front. The Building Official told the Board that the Village Manager wanted to point out that 90% of the signs in the shopping center are boxed cabinet signs and there are only two (2) like this. The Building Official told the Board they can approve whatever they want, but the Ordinance states that the signs should conform with the other signs in the Shopping Center. Mr. Toth told Council he has taken only a year's lease to see how the business will do and cannot afford a more expensive sign. Mr. Toth told the Board that if the business does well during the year, they could get a more expensive sign for the next year. Ricci moved, "to approve plans as submitted for a period of one year only." Sundermann seconded and vote on the motion was: Butterfield - for Cleveland - for Nagle - for Pierson - for Ricci - for Sundermann - for and therefore the motion was passed and adopted. The next item on the agenda was the application of Ritz Too, owner, Renee B. Wilson, for a sign for 361 Tequesta Drive, Gallery Square North. The "Ritz Too" will be solid black plastic custom - cut letters, securely attached to front face of building above entrance. The "Fine Food & Catering" will be black plastic formed letters. The letters will be secured to fascia board above entrance. Owner of the Ritz Too, Renee B. Wilson was present along with a representative of Rex.Sign. Nagle moved, "to approve the sign as submitted" Ricci seconded and vote on the motion was: Butterfield - for Cleveland - for Nagle - for Pierson - for Ricci - for Sundermann - for and therefore the motion was passed and adopted. The next item on the agenda was the application of the Face Place, owner, Susan Colley, for a sign for 376 Tequesta Drive, Gallery Square South. The sign will be 20" x 72 with gold letters and a black outline. The sign will be bolted to fascia board above walkway in front of store. Pierson moved, "to approve the sign as submitted ". Ricci seconded and vote on the motion was: Butterfield - for Cleveland - for Nagle - for Pierson - for Ricci - for Sundermann - for and therefore the motion was passed and adopted. "Wall Coverings and Interiors by Laura," owner, Laura E. Russo, 193 Tequesta Drive, Lighthouse Plaza was the next applicant on the agenda. Owner Laura E. Russo was present. The sign is 3' x 8' which would be lit. It is a single face wall sign with white background with red letters. The Building Official pointed out that most of the signs in this Shopping Center have blue letters. Mr. Dan May, Ferrin Signs was present and told the Board members that the owners of the Shopping Center will change the facias on the buildings and all signs will be changed to single face walled sign. The Building Official told the Board that any changes like this will have to be brought before the Community Appearance Board for approval. He also told the Board he is a little leery of letting the owner start piece - mealing the signs without having the owners of the Shopping Center coming before the Board to have their new format approved. The Board discussed the colors of the sign and could see no real problem with the color since K -Mart, Super X and Winn Dixie all had different colors. Ricci moved, "to accept the plans as submitted."
