Board members present were: Cleveland, Ricci, Sundermann, Nagle and Alternate Member, R. Butterfield. Pierson had advised he could not be in attendance. Also present were: C. Colbert, Assistant Clerk of the Board and Scott Ladd, Building Official. The Chairman read the three (3) items that were to be considered by the Board at this meeting. The first item for consideration was the application of K.L.R.. Associates to change the existing signage at 175 Tequesta Drive using the same color scheme and shape format and mounting. Nagle moved, "to approve the appli- cation". Sundermann seconded and vote on the motion was: Butterfield - for Cleveland - for Nagle - for Ricci - for Sundermann - for and therefore the motion was passed and adopted. The next item for consideration was the application of Tequesta Pines Property Owners Association for changing the requirements of the tree planting plans. The T.P.P.O.A. had sent a letter dated January 7, 1985 requesting the Community Appearance Board give approval for the T.P.P.O.A. to change the Street Tree Planting Plans to substitute the Acacia Tree with the Biochofia tree. T.P.P.O.A. has had trouble with the acacias dying and felt that another tree would be better suited for the ground conditions in that area. Mary and Nick Kategin were present representing T.P.P.O.A. The repre- sentatives and Board members spoke of replacing the acacia trees with Black Olive, Biochofia or the Silk Oak. They also spoke of replacing the trees with the queens palms. The Board members spoke against the palms saying they were slow growing and also had.a great maintenance problem in the fact that the fronds had to be removed often. The Building Official told the Board that North Palm Beach Village had the queens palms in their swale areas and the maintenance had become so great on them they took them out and replaced them. r Community Appearance Board Meeting January 16, 1985 Page 2 - ---------------------------------------- Nagle moved, "that we let them decide approval of anyone of the Black Olive, Biochofia or the Silk Oak ". Their replacements would take place when the present tree die out or when there is new construction going on. The next item for consideration was the application of Tequesta Cove, Inc. for a 12' x 2' sign for the Tequesta Cove Sales Trailer, on U. S. No. 1, Tequesta. Box 3906, Tequesta, Florida 331 January 7, 1985 Community Appearance Board Village of Tequesta Tequesta, Florida 334 Gentlemen. This is to respectfully submit a request for a change_ in the Tequesta Pines Street Tree Planting Plan, This Street Tree Planting Plan was part of the Site Plan originally submitted by DiVosta Construction and approved by the Village Council. This plan directed that an Acacia tree be planted in the parkway in front of each house along the main streets in Tequesta Pines as each house was built. This was done and is being done before a CO is issued. In the past four years many of these acacias have died. Many of the property owners replaced these acacias once and in some cases twice only to have them die again. -Many of the acacias planted along Seabrook Road have also died and have been replaced more than once. In some instances property owners have refused to replace an acacia with another acacia. This matter was brought to the attention of the 1984 Board of Directors of the Tequesta Pines Property Owners Association many times during the year and in particular the attention of Ruth Recroft the 1984 President. During her term of office, Ruth Recroft had several discussions and some correspondence with the County Cooperative Extension Service. She was informed that when the land for Tequesta Pines subdivision was cleared many pine tree roots were left in the soil and .became diseased. For this reason the soil in some areas will never be a good soil for the acacia tree. Further research was done on what type of tree would be suitable for the soil in this area. Also a sample poll of residents was taken as to the preference of type of tree. The name of the tree selected is the BISCHOFIA tree. The Tequesta Pines Property Owners Association, therefore, respectfully requests that approval be given to change the Street Tree Planting Plan to substitute the Acacia tree with the Bischofia tree. This to be carried out as the present dcaias.die..out and on new construction. cc: Ruth Recroft Si cerely yours, Secretary's file ] Thomas M. Hurley 1 984 Legal Affairs Committee
