OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA
COMMUNITY APPEARANCE BOARD
APRIL 3, 1985
A meeting of the Village of Tequesta Community Appearance Board
was held at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 3, 1985 in the Village Hall, 357
Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida.
Board members present were: Cleveland, Nagle Pierson, Ricci and
Sundermann. Also present were R. Harp, Clerk of the Board and Scott D. Ladd,
Building Official.
The Chairman read the Notice of the Meeting. The clerk advised
that since preparation of the Notice an additional item had been presented for
consideration at this meeting. He said that the First United Presbyterian
Church of Tequesta had made application for a Special Exception to allow
the operation of a pre - school facility as part of their existing Special
Exception Church Facility for which the Zoning Ordinance was recently amended
to provide for. It was noted the Zoning Ordinance requires the Community
Appearance Board to review all applications for Special Exception use ;s and
file a report with written recommendations with the Building Official not
less than five (5) days before the Village Council's Public Hearing on the
Special Exception. It was noted there are not to be any changes in the
church buildings to accommodate the pre - school and the Board's review was
to conform to the Zoning Ordinance requirements. Rev. Emery was in attendance
representing the church and advised there were no changes contemplated unless
they might be required by the Health Department. It was noted the Board had
recently approved a fence enclosure and additional church parking. Nagle
moved, second by Ricci that the Board approve the Church's use of their
facility for a pre= school as allowed by the Zoning Ordinance. The vote on
the motion was:
Nagle - for
Ricci - for
Pierson - for
Sundermann - for
Cleveland - for
and the motion therefore passed.
The next item for consideration was the application of Bishop
Signs, acting for Barnett Bank Tequesta Branch, 150 Tequesta Drive, for an
additional 18" x 96 11 .sign saying "Super Teller" below the existing bank pole
sign on U.S. #1. Kevin Brady from Bishop Signs and Stephen J. Andretta from
the Barnett Bank were in attendance. Brady noted the sign would be the same
colors as the existing sign white letters on green background. Ladd noted
the sign meets all sign requirements. Andretta noted the sign was to.let the
public know that the bank has Super- Teller Facilities. Sundermann moved,
second by Ricci that the plans for the sign be approved as submitted. The

and the motion therefore passed. The Board then signed plans Bishop Signs,
Barnett Bank, Drawing B- 353 -RL dated May 11, 1983.
The next item for consideration was the application of Tequesta Pines
Property Owners Association, Inc. to replace Acacia Trees with Queen Palms
in Tequesta Pines. Ladd noted that the Board had previously approved three
(3) choices but Queen Palms was not one of them, hence, the need to come
back to the Board. It was generally agreed that the Queen Palm was a good
choice and Nagle moved, second by Sundermann that the application of Tequesta
Pines.Property Association, Inc. to replace Acacia Trees with Queen
Palms be approved. The vote on the motion was:
Nagle - for
Sundermann - for

Re: Acacia Tree Replacement j .
j !
Dear Community Appearance Board Members,
Per your letter dated March 15, 1985 and per our letter dated
February 20, 1985 there seems to be some confusion in regards to
the of the existing Acacia Trees.
After careful review and talking with several of our local landscape
companies here in the Tequesta area, our Board Members unanimously
selected the Queen Palm Tree as replacement for the existing Acacia
Trees. Our reasoning behind our decision was based on several factors.
The Queen Palm Tree;
1) Is Sustainable to high winds and stormy conditions.
2) Is known for excellent growth in sandy soil with
minimal amounts of fertilizers required.
3) Is tolerant to cold weather and frost conditions.
4) Does not need to be cut back or trimmed once a year.
(Most homeowners have been very lax on trimming back
the existing Acacia Trees.)
5) Is maintenance free from droppings and the falling
of leaves for clean -up.
6) Is green the year round, and best of all is a Florida
tree.
We are going to have a Special Membership Meeting April 4, 1985,
the purpose of this meeting is to consider and approve the replace-
- ment and improvement of the (landscaped) common areas. I would
greatly appreciate your prompt attention and consideration on this
matter. If I, or any of our Board Members can be of any further
assistance to your Committee please contact us at any time. Thank
you for your assistance and concerns in helping us maintain our
quality standards for beauty in Tequesta.
Respectfully yours,
Ron T. Mackail, President

Dear Mr; Mackail:
RE: Acacia Tree Replacement
As we discussed in our.telephone conversation on March 15,
1985, and as per letter dated Jan. 31; 1985 the Community .
Appearance Board gave the Tequesta Pines Property Owners Assoc.
three choices for replacement of the Acacia trees; the Black
01ive, Biochofia or the SiIk`Oak. The Queen'Palm tree was not
one of the choices approved by the board. Should the Property
Owners As decide they would rather use the Queen Palm tree
than one of'the approved choices, it would have to go-back be-
fore the Community Appearance Board.
I have.enclosed an application for CAB review which should
be completed and returned to the Building Dept.
If I can be of any assistance, please call.
Sincerely,
