I. The Tequesta Public Safety Committee held a scheduled meeting
at the Village Hall at 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida,
on Monday, Wednesday, May 13, 1992. The meeting was called
to order at 9:30 A.M. by Joseph N. Capretta, Co- Chairman.
Chairman William E. Burckart was not in attendance. Also in
attendance were Village Manager, Thomas G. Bradford, Police
Chief, Carl Roderick, and Lt. Steve Allison.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The Agenda was approved as submitted.
III. REVIEW OF PROPOSED TEQUESTA POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS PROGRAM
IN LIEU OF DARE PROGRAM.
Chief Roderick explained that he had looked into the
possibility of the Tequesta Police Department becoming
involved in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
program. After checking with all agencies involved, it was
discovered that the program is a 17 -week course, there would
be a start -up cost of $3,700, there should be a Public
Relations Officer in tune with the program, Tequesta does not
have a facility to handle the program, and Tequesta school
children attend the Jupiter program at school. The program
would be directed toward 6th graders. Jupiter has a program
in the Jupiter Schools and the Sheriff's Department runs the
program in County Schools.
Co- Chairman Capretta stated that since Tequesta school
children are benefiting from the Jupiter DARE program, there
would probably not be a market for such a program in Tequesta.
Chief Roderick stated he had requested a Public Relations
program along that same vein for Tequesta since the Police
Department is asked to appear at church schools, etc. to make
presentations, bicycle safety inspections, and so forth. Co-
Chairman Capretta suggested that be put into the Budget.

IV. REVIEW OF PROPOSED NORTHERN AREA MUTUAL AID CONSORTIUM ( NAMAC)
EMERGENCY POLICE SERVICES MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT.
Chief Roderick explained that NAMAC is an agreement for mutual
aid between the northern area municipalities, which will cover
from Riviera Beach and north. In case of an emergency, any
one of the departments between Riviera Beach and Jupiter can
be called upon to respond.
The difference between the NAMAC agreement and the agreement
desired between Tequesta, Jupiter, and Jupiter Inlet Colony
is that NAMAC has more details regarding forfeitures, etc.,
and it covers basically emergency situations.
Co- Chairman Capretta stated he felt both Agreements were a
good idea.
V. ANY OTHER MATTERS
Additional matters relating to Public Safety were discussed,
including police officer's forthcoming role in Code
Enforcement, Fire Rescue, and police services in areas outside
of Tequesta.
