The matter was presented by the Mayor and officially discussed by the Jupiter Town Council at their Augusfi 6 meeting. It was communicated that Tequesta desires to have the structure relocated as soon as possible. The Council was encouraged that the structure has been examined by the Building Dept., a local historic architect, and local contractor and that the exterior was deemed to be in "good shape" and the building structurally sound enough to be moved. Potential sites were mentioned such as Sawfish Bay Park, Lighthouse Park, Inlet Marina Park, proposed tri-rail station area. The Council was made aware of one cost estimate to move of $48,000, and the need to go through a formal bid process was noted. The Council unanimously expressed interest in continuing to explore preservafiion of the Jupiter Depot, based on a partnership with a fund-raising group. (If the Village decides not to pursue its preservation on-site.) Staff was instructed to move forward with a more detailed analysis. Next steps for the Town would include preparing project cost estimates, including moving, site prep., restoration, etc.; analysis of potential sites; assessment of funding sources including feasible grants; actual use of structure; time-line for implementation; extent of outside participation and fund raising. The Council would then be in a position to make a final decision and commitment. At the last Village meeting, a deadline of the Sept 8 meeting was given for the establishment of a plan or final decision. While we would be able to provide an update, Jupiter would be unable to commit by that date, given the complexity of the project and Council meeting schedules. We believe your October meeting would be a more realistic deadline. 210 Military Trail o Jupiter, Florida 33458 www.jupiter.fl.us o Phone (561) 746-5134 ,' , _ ..
