HomeMy WebLinkAboutDocumentation_Regular_Tab 01_10/13/2011 Jupiter Train Depot Update from Mavar Golonlca to Villae of Tequesta - October 11. 2011 Progress to date At the August 11 Tequesta Council meeting I reported that the Jupiter 7own Council had unanimously expressed support for saving the Jupiter Depot, and had instructed staff to begin initial examination of feasible locations. Since fihen, on September 6, the lupiter Town Council voted to include relocation of the Jupiter Depot as a capital project for FY2011J12 and placed $80,000 in the budget for moving/site prep. costs. The 7own has agreed to fund the moving of the depot, with the understanding that restoration costs will come primarily from grants or fund-raising. The Town is prepared to undertake the move without restoration funding in place. At the October 4lupiter Council meeting, Council reviewed various sites listed by staff and narrowed the potential location to 3 sites: Sawfish Bay Park, Lighthouse Park and Inlet Village parl<. (See attached memo listing sites.) 5taff was directed to begin in-depth review of these 3 sites, as well as preliminary cost estimates. Staff was also directed to make contact with interested parties regarding funding. A meeting was held October 7 with Assistant Town Manager Anne Lyons, who vifl be the Town staff coordinator for the project, Guild representative Mary-Therese Delate an lupiter Mayor Golonka. Outcome of the meeting: • Town — Responsible for site evaluation and final decision, with input from the Guild. Town staff has made this a priority. • Loxahatchee Guild — will coordinate local fundraising. A small, initial group is being set up, to explore various funding options. Fund-raising will expand once location is selected. An e-mail address has been established at: saveolddepot@-mail.com_ • Town site evaluation underway from both engineering and planning perspectives. Timeline to move depot lupiter recognizes that time is of the essence, and that Tequesta needs to move ahead with developing its park site. After discussion with staff, we have set a timetable that calls far the Depot to be moved off the site by late lanuary. While this is very compressed given the actions that must occur, we believe it is possible. Staff is in the process of developing a time-line with specific target dates. Below is a preliminary timeframe, with target dates. While these dates or sequences may be adjusted, the final moving date will remain fixed. • October 5- mid November: Staff site analysis, cost estimates, etc . Town staff determines best approach for bidding process. • Late November/ early December:lupiter Town Council makes site selection. • November: Town requests bids to move building (Note: may bid more than 1 location to get bid out earlier.) • Early/Mid December - Bids due back. • Dec. 20 meeting or 1st January meeting: Council approves moving company. • Dec. — Jan.: basic site preparation work done at chosen location • Late January: depot moved. The Town of Jupiter would again lil<e to thank the Tequesta Council for considering a delay of the parl< project to allow us to determine the feasibility of the station re-location. I hope that the Village Council will find the above to be an acceptable date by which to have the structure moved. We are most appreciative of Tequesta's willingness to work with us to save an historic structure which will be an asset to both our communities. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call Assistant Town Manager Anne Lyons or me at 741-2214. %2aG4L JCUtQl2 L+i / (JGGI [I %el'LGZ`Jl TUWN OF JUPITER ;;;,,, ,; TOWN MANAGER'S OFFICE _t; , DATE: September Z0, 2p71 ,k { il,, TO: The Honorable Mayor and Town Council Members fi /r , r a. , 4 :,.. c, , J %,-/; FROM: Andrew D.
