2. Review Historical Memorabilia received from Residents for Historical
Archiving
Chair Bethany Humpage provided a newspaper article from 1976 showing her as the
first female police officer and Mrs. Campbell as the Mayor. The Committee reviewed
some of the photos from the Village's colfection, placing stickers on those they wanted
to keep to display. Village Clerk McWilliams came into the meeting and advised the
photos needed to be reviewed at some point to write identifying names and dates on the
back.
Board Member Campbell reported a new book on the area had been published with
very little mention of Tequesta. Village Clerk McWilliams suggested this Committee
come up with a letter signed by the Chair to send to the authors Board Member
Campbell commented she would like the letter to also be signed by the Village. Village
Clerk McWilliams indicated she would speak to the Village Manager about the letter.
Village Clerk McWilliams advised this Committee had been established to preserve the
Village history because the Village did not have staff resources available to do this in
addifion to their many ofher duties. She commented both she and Recording Secretary
Laur were there to help the Committee, but the Committee needed to take upon
fhemselves moving forward with the preservation of Ilage history because it is so
important.

The Committee also reviewed items provided by Carlton Stoddard, and placed a

A poster had been received from Perone with the glass cracked, which was to be
returned. The Committee asked that a smaller copy be made.
The Recording Secretary was asked to check to see if there were other recent Smoke
Signals to go with the ones the Committee were reviewing today, or to find out if the
Village kept all copies, in which case the Committee might not need to keep them.

4. Any Other Matters
Board Member Campbell reported the Village Manager did not want to have anything
hanging in the Village Chambers. She noted there was nothing in that room identifying
it as Tequesta, and she was going to fight him on this. Consensus of the Committee
was to have Dottie Campbeli ask the Council at their July meeting if the History
Committee could submit several proposals for hanging something over the dias, so that
when a stranger came in they would see identification with the Village.
Aournment llpon mofion by Board Member Marie, seconded by Board Member
Hutchinson, the meeting was adjoumed 19:25 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Betty Laur
