Just outside your window is a world to explore filled with plants, animals, and interesting environmental features. Nature
is at the doorstep of every school. Direct observations of the relationships between the schoolyard environment and the
organisms that live in it will spark your curiosity about the patterns and interactions in nature, and will enable you to better
comprehend and appreciate the complex interactions of greater world ecosystems.
See and Hear Inside the Human Body
Have you ever thought about taking an x-ray, seeing a beating heart, hearing how a lung sounds through a stethoscope?
You will have the opportunity to do that and much more while learning about the exciting allied health careers of
Respiratory Care, Radiology and Sonography.
Green Thumb Growin'
Bring your green thumb and come garden with the PBCC plant nursery. Cultivate your interest in bugs and critters,
gardening, and taking good care of your environment. We'll take walks on campus, hunt bugs, grow same gardens, and
sprout seeds. You'll take home what you grow! Sessions include: Insects in the Garden, Basic Gardening Tools and
Practices (applied to a butterfly garden and growing vegetables), Hydroponics, Recognizing Plants, and Good Earth
Stewardship. Students should have a genuine interest and be prepared for normal Florida summer outdoor conditions.
(There will be no use of chemicals or sharp implements.)
ART
Painting
Learn techniques and planning involved in developing your painting style. Explore a variety of painting mediums with
watercolor and acrylic paints. Produce creative mixed media projects by combining materials. Bring student supplies for
painting.
You Can Draw!
Take a journey through the "line," which is the basis of all drawing. Learn technical skills and experiment at the same
time. Work in basic materials such as graphite, colored pencil, ink and paint. Then, combine your learned skills with new
and exciting ways to mix media. You will draw from real life as well as from imaginative ideas you develop yourself.
It's Me Own Face
The participants begin with having a plaster mask created on their own face, then the masks will be transformed into
dynamic and expressive creatures or characters. After the individual mask has been transformed and painted, there will
be lots of "fru-fru" (glitter, beads, feathers, and other frills) for final decoration.
