HomeMy WebLinkAboutDocumentation_Regular_Tab 17_09/07/2005 RESOLi7TION NO. 90-04/05 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH CO[INTY, � FLORIDA DECLARII�IG ITS SUPPORT OF THE LOXAHATCHEE RIVER PRESERVATION INITIATIVE'S EFFORTS TQ RESTORE AND PRESERVE THE LOXAHATCHEE RIVER AND RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA'S AND THE U1vITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S MUTUAL SUPPORT OF THE INITIATIVE'S FY 2006 FUI�IDING REQUEST. '1X�HEREAS, the Loxahatchee River and its tributaries drain over 270 square miles of both Pa1m Beach and Maxtin Counties; and WHEREAS, although the Loxahatchee River has been given pratective status of an Outstanding Florida Water Body, it remains impacted; and WHEREAS, development in the region has altered the natural state of much of the river and water quality concems ate widespxead; and WHEREAS, stormwater runoff from urban and agricultural areas threaten the Iong- term viability of the ance pristine estuary; and WHEREAS, sediment build-up, muck and other pollutants presentlp jeopardize the sustainability of the river's undenvater and shoseline ecalogical habitats; and WHEREAS, even though the Loxaliatchee River was the fitst nationally designated a Wild and Scenic River in the 5tate of Florida, comparablp fittle attention is given towatds support of local programs aimed at protecting and restoring the treasuted resource; and WHEREAS, the Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative i.s comprised of a vast consortium of public agencies, public intexest gxoups and concemed eitizens who are all dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of the Loxahatchee River System; and WHEREAS, the Loxahatchee River PxeseYVation Initiative has puxsued state legislative funding to support the construction of water quality improvement pxojects throughout the river basin. 'WH�REAS, thxough the efforts of the lacal legislative delegation, $9.5 million has been appropriated within the state budget to assist the Initiative since FY 2002; and WHEREt1S, manp moxe water qualify projects remain to be completed in FY 2006; thexefore, the Initiative is aga.in requesting the support of the State of Florida and the United States Federal Government NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Viliage Council of the Village of Tequesta, Florida: Section 1. The Village hereby notifies the members of the Loxahatchee Rivex Preservati.on , Initia.tive of its conti��zed support in its efforts t� restare and pxeserve the Lc>xahatchee River and respect£ullp requests the State of Florida's and the United Sta.tes Federal Government's mutual support of the Initiative's FY 2006 Funding Request. Section 2. The Viliage Clerk is hereby ditected to transmit this Resolution to the Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative, local, state and federal Iegislative delegation membexs and to the office of the Governor of the State of Florida. Seetaion 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. The foregoing Resolution was offered by Council Member . , who moved its adoption.
