MARCH 10, 1999
I. CALL TO ORDLR AND ROLL CALL
The Tequesta Community Appearance Board held a meeting in
the village Council Chambers at 357 Tequesta Drive,
Tequesta, Florida, on wednesday, March 10, 1999. The
meeting was called to order at 9:35 A.M. by Chair Leslie
Cook. Boardmembers present were Chair Leslie Cook, vice
Chair Vic Strahan, Paui Coben, Claudette Dalack, and Molly
MeCormick. Also in attendance was Village Planner Kara
Irwin, sitting in for Clerk of the Board Scott D. Ladd.
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
. Chair Cook aaaounced that the ageada was approved as
submitted.

Leslie Cook was appointed Chairman.

Scott D. Ladd was appointed Clerk of the Board.

wade Griest indicated he did not know Planner Kara Irwin,
and was introduced. Mr. Griest introduced new residents of
the Village who were interested in the Village government.

Chair Cook announced that the minutes of the necember 1G,
�998 meeting were approved as submitted.

letter3,ag at 399 Seabrook Road.
Peggy Gallo stated she was not p�esent as a
representative of the YMCA but had taken on the job as
Director of Senior Citizens Social Activ�.ties for the
YMCA, and questioned why the Village would not allow the
YMCA name to be added to the sign by the road. After
approval of the sign was questioned, Joanne Burnsed of
the Community Development Department explained the sign
had been shown on the original landscape plans, which
were approved by the Village. Ms. Gallo was advised by
the Board that no request had been made to add YMCA to
the sign, and that at the time the sign was approved the
YMCA had not been in Tequesta. Chair Cook recommended

Village Council to request addition of the YMCA name to
the sign. Mr. Coben commented that if after the YMCA
wall sign was in place Ms. Gallo felt it was inadequate,
she could request addition of the YM�A name to the
monument sign. Planner Irwin advised that Ms. Gallo
could call the Community Development Department to
inquire as to the proper process.
During discussion of the wall sign r�quest, the Board
discussed adding a border.
Saardmember Cohen made a motioa to approve the
applicatiQa from the YMCA of Tequesta for the

blue viayl letteriag, at 399 3eabrook Roa.d, v�ith the
chaa.ge t.hat a border ia the �ame material as the ietters

Vice Chaix StXahaa seaaaded the motioa. The vote oa the
motion was:

The motioa aas therefcre passed and adopted.

The Board discussed the request to change the
seagrape to another type of tree. Vice Chair
Strahan recalled that this applicant had had a
problem with any type of plant t�iat would drop
leaves onto the boats. T'he Board agreed since it
was only one tree that they would grant the
request.
Boardme.mber Cobea made a motioa to allo�v The Jib
Club to make the chaage oa their approved plan for
the oae tree as requested, to aaother tree a£
equivaleat size fromn the liat of choices provided,
�otfoa ovas seccaded by Boardmember McCormick. The
vote on the motioa �ra�:

The motioa was therefore passed and adopted.
2) Chair Cook commented she had been going to the
chiidren�s park and several pine trees looked ready
to die. �hair Cook stated as a suggestion to Gary
Preston, DirectQr of Pub],ic Works and Recreation,
that instead of planting or�e tr�e for Arbor Day to
� plant five pine trees in the park equal in value to
the one tree usually planted, and asked the other
members of the Board to remember to advise Mr.
Preston of this suggestion when vating tor the
Arbor Day tree.
