Bradford, Village"Manager � DATE: January 4, 1994 SUB,7ECT: Resolution Expressinq Concern Regarding the Safety of , School Children; Agenda Itea Recently, Tequesta citizens approached the Village Council seeking action to curb the rise in violence within local schools. The same concerns were expressed by Jupiter citizens to the Town Council of Jupiter. In response, the Town Council of Jupiter recently adopted a Resolution similar to the attached. It is recommended that the Village Council adopt this Resolution to express concern regarding the safety of school children and urging the Palm Beach County School Board to take the necessary actions to curb the same. I � WHEREAS, the Village Council is charged with the '� responsibility of protecting and advancing the health, safety i' and welfare of all its citizens; and �� Te uesta children attend several schools within the �, WHEREAS, q ;I Palm Beach County School District; and ,, � WHEREAS, parents of children who reside within Tequesta have ( expressed concern regarding the safety of school children due � to the possible presence of lethal weapons in or around the � ' schools. The School Board of Palm Beach�unty is urged to adopt appropriate policies or rules to address the potential presence of lethal weapons in or around schools - which are attended by residents of the Village of Tequesta. SECTION 2. The Village Clerk is authorized and directed to transmit this Resolution on behalf of the Village Council to �{ the School Board of Palm Beach County.
