SUBJECT Follow-up with Florida Leaque of Cities (FLC) Regardinq
Information Requested bp the Board of Trustees of the
Firefiqhters Pension aad Trust Fund
In response to the Board of Trustees Meeting held on May 23, 1994,
in writing, please immediately seek answers to the following
questions for consideration by the Board of Trustees:
1) The FLC, in their letter to you dated April 14, 1994,
indicates that the cost of the annual actuarial to the Village
of Tequesta is $4,000. Please determine from the FLC whether
this cost can be postponed to the third year, as required by
Florida Statutes, or, alternatively, whether there are ways
and means to reduce this cost, as it appears to be a
significant impact to the Fund and an effort should be
undertaken to postpone or reduce the same.
2) Again, request the FLC to have their actuary provide a
proposal to the Board of Trustees for the purpose of
determining an amount of money to be deducted from current
firefighter pay in order to allow retired firefighters to
secure health insurance coverage fram Tequesta at the same
cost that will be charged to actively employed Tequesta
firefighters. If the FLC actuary fails to respond to the
request for a proposal on a timely basis, immediately seek a
proposal from the actuarial firm based in Ft . Lauderdale, used
by Tequesta in the generation of the Fire-Rescue Report for
the Tequesta Fire-Rescue Task Force.
3) Request the FLC actuary to provide written comments on the
feasibility of reducing the early retirement penalty from the
current 5 to 3 per year.
4) Have the FLC actuary indicate the cost of undertaking an
actuarial analysis of the impact to the Plan if such a
reduction in the early retirement penalty is undertaken.

5) Provide a copy of the page within the actuarial study done by
the FLC which was used to create the Tequesta Fund, indicating
the age assumption for all firefighters and attach a copy of
the actual ages of Tequesta firefighters, as was provided to
the Board at their meeting on May 23, 1994, agenda item V, F.
Please respond to this request as soon as possible so that the
information rendered can be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for
their consideration. The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be
held in September 1994. The information requested herein should be
forwarded to the attention of the Village Manager, significantly
prior to that time.
Should you have any questions regarding this request, please
contact me at your convenience.
