Dear Members of the Tequesta Village Council,
This letter is in regard to the community's concern over the feral cat population. I
would just like to let you know about my own personal experience with this matter.
A few months ago, we discovered a very wild feral cat with kittens in our yard.
She came around frequently but would not allow us near her. However, we were able to
capture her babies. I called Save A Pet #o see what I could do about the mamma cat
and was put in touch with Jaye Rodriguez. She and her organization offered to come
out to my house and catch the cat themselves. They boarded her, took her to Peggy
Adams animal shelter to be vaccinated and spayed, kept her again overnight, and
allowed her back to be released in my yard. I still see her around; she is now healthy,
happy and welL
Save A Pet also offered to care for her babies, which would have included all their
medical needs (vaccinated and neutered) as well as raising them to adoption age and
finding them adoptive homes. Since we chose to keep the babies ourselves, they gave
us great advice on getting them affordable medical care. Everyone I dealt with through
Save A Pet was extremely kind, helpful and compassionate, and no one asked me for a
cent.
All around the country we see examples of TNR programs in place that are
working with great success. I implore our community to follow this kinder method of feral
cat control. I believe that Save A Pet is a wonderful organization that is working hard for
the good of both the animals and people. With the community's support, this problem
can be solved the better way.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
