HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Regular_03/18/2008_ReorganizationMINUTES VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA VILLAGE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES (Swearing in and Reorganization) MARCH 18, 2008 CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order by Mayor Jim Humpage at 7:00 p.m. A roll call was taken by Recording Secretary Mayo. Present were: Mayor Jim Humpage, Vice Mayor Pat Watkins, Council Member Dan Amero, Council Member Tom Paterno, and Council Member Calvin Turnquest and Council Member Elect Vince Arena. Also in attendance were: Village Manager Michael R. Couzzo, Village Attorney Trela White, Jr., Recording Secretary Deanna Mayo and Department Heads. PRESENTATION OF COLORS BY TEQUESTA HONOR GUARD INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Reverend Paul Beresford led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Outgoing Council Member Amero thanked the Council and residents for the opportunity he was given. COUNCIL OATHS OF OFFICE Village Manager Michael R. Couzzo performed the Oaths of Office to: • Seat 1 -Vince Arena • Seat 3 -Jim Humpage • Seat 5 -Calvin Turnquest REMARKS OF INCOMING COUNCIL MEMBERS • Seat 1 Vince Arena Mr. Arena thanked the residents for giving him the opportunity to serve them. Seat 3 Jim Humpage Mayor Humpage was pleased to serve a third term in office and believed the Council worked together diligently on issues important to the residents. He noted the Village was financially sound with exceptional staff and stated his objectives were the bridge and to ensure the safety of each resident. Agenda -Village Council Regular Meeting 3/18/08 Council Reorganization & Swearing In Page 2 • Seat 5 Calvin Turnquest Thanked the residents for attending and voting in the election and was proud the residents warranted him a second term. VILLAGE COUNCIL REORGANIZATION Election of Officers for the following year. Mayor 1. Call for Nominations Mayor Humpage called for nominations for Mayor. Council Member Arena nominated Council Member Watkins. Mayor Humpage asked if there were any other nominations; there being none, the Mayor closed nominations. 2. Election VOTE: Council voted by a show of hands for nominee Council Member Pat Watkins as Mayor; Mayor Humpage announced Council Member Watkins would serve as Mayor by a unanimous 5-0 vote. Vice Mayor 1. Call for Nominations Mayor Watkins called for nominations for Vice-Mayor. Council Member Arena nominated Jim Humpage and Council Member Paterno nominated Council Member Turnquest. Mayor Watkins asked if there were any other nominations; there being none, the Mayor closed nominations. 2. Election VOTE: Council voted by a show of hands for nominee Council Member Humpage as Vice-Mayor; Council voted by a show of hands for nominee Council Member Turnquest; Mayor Watkins announced Council Member Turnquest would serve as Vice-Mayor by a unanimous 5-0 vote. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Council Member Arena moved to adjourn the meeting; Vice Mayor Turnquest seconded the motion, which carried by unanimous 5-0 vote.
