Repackage and Relocate
Truth be told, it makes good marketing sense to repackage, relocate and stiil retain Tequesta's
annual VILLAGE FESTIVAL in 2013. It'il be quite cost-effective, too.
While the costly expansion of last year's Tequesta-Fest at Paradise Park may not be the best
option for its continuance, a more sensible change to a smaller, quainter event held in the heart
of the Viilage might create a more meaningful celebration at two locations that can easily be
connected. Essentially, utilizing the Village main campus along with Constitution Park might
capitalize on a more quaintly cozy feel... while exposing the villagers to the everyday tangible
asse#s of their local government. The exposure will allow us to distinguish many of our
features, advantages and benefits of living in Tequesta through a close, easy & casual contact
with our emergency services. Both fire-rescue and police can conduct tours and mini-
seminars... and offer an up-close-and-personal contact with those who provide for their safety
24-7-365.
As well, the Recreation Center that abuts Constitution Park can focus on enlightening the both
ends of the age spectrum that reside here, possibly with a mix of games, face-painting, and

toumaments for the otder senior crowd.

Outside vendors such as food trucks or stands can help offs the financial overhead, along

with a Village craft & art fair. How about starting an annual old=fashioned pie-ma ing contest
with ribbon awards; and why stop with pies. We can explore many other options. Let's better
utilize the park bandstand to platform a diversified array of live music. Inside the Recreation
Center, maybe a class in square-dancing, including a caller along with good country music.
Accordingly, I suggest combining but scaling down ftom a parking lot carnival environment to a
more unpretentious folksy Village Festival celebration. lt may provide a tastefully unique smalf-
town distinction that helps define what Tequesta is all about; wholesome, safe fun with good
food in a warm and friendly environment. If we utilize the clustering of the village campus as
well as Constitution Park and the Rec Center, we should have ample room for a diversied mix
of stuff. And ifi past perfarmance is an indicator, Greg can probably devetop a merchandising
mix that will underwrite much of our costs. Given the venues, policing and controlling the
cluster should not be a problem; in fact, it wilf be an opportunity for good healthy interaction
between our potice and the residents.
These ideas obviously need some logistical planning, but the concept provides for a much less
-
costly "Tequesta-Fest" tfiat is held in the hearf of the Village; capitalizing on an up=close-an -
personal celebration for atl residents to enjoy and be proud of by association.
The scating down will sti{{ send a message of a frugat cutback... as wetl as a refinement that
distinguishes us. But the festival should absolutely continue, albeit in a new "package" this
year. The feedback I received at last year's event indicate that our residents as well as many
outsiders like a special annual event. If it's too late for October, it might make more sense to
capitalize on the pre-Thanksgiving season... and weave in "the feeting of thankful
appreciation" to residents for continuing to help keep Tequesta uniquely special.
Thanks for considering this recommendation.
