Bradford, Village Manager DATE: July 7, 1994 SUBJECT: Presentation on Proposed Riviera Seach Coavention Center Site; Ageada Item Vice-Mayor Burckart and Councilmember Collings have both requested that a presentation regarding the proposed Riviera Beach Convention Center site be made to the Village Council. In this regard, I have contacted Neil Crilly, the Riviera Beach CRA Executive Director, requesting such a presentation at the July 14, 1994, Village Council Meeting. If the Village Council looks favorably upon the proposed Riviera Beach Convention Center site, I have taken the liberty of preparing a Resolution of the Village Council approving the same, also for your consideration at the July 14, 1994, Village Council Meeting. Based upon my understanding of the subject matter, I would recommend that the Village Council approve the proposed Convention Center site in Riviera Beach because: 1) It would provide badly needed redevelopment and economic activity in Riviera Beach. . 2) It would be good for the Northern Palm Beach County area. 3) It is the only Convention Center site providing waterfront amenities. A convention center site in Palm Beach County without waterfront access is synonymous with having a convention center in San Francisco, but actually constructing it in a suburban area, such as Walnut Creek, or a New York City convention center in the Meadowlands of New Jersey or the Miami Beach Convention Center constructed in some hinterland area such as Kendall. It is recommended that the Village Council support the Riviera Beach Convention Center site by adopting Resolution No. 18-93/94 supporting the same. TGB/krb ' ;'+ar.' ..' :tm•
