In the event that the Village proceeds with this Program, it is essential that we enwaerate the kind of work that the Village has available for JASP participants on a departmental basis. Only those activities enumerated by each Department will be available for JASP participants activities. . Please provide a memorandum enumerating various tasks•that you would have available for JASP participants within your Department. Remember that the use of dangerous tools and/or machinery is prohibited. Time required can fluctuate from a few hours per week to whatever level the organization desires. In many cases, the child will work with the custodial or clerical staff. Thus, no additional time is required. What if there is a problem with a JASP participant? If you experience any difficulty �ith the participant, notify JASP immediately. If the problem aannot be rectified through mediation, the client will be moved to an alternative worksite. Absence, tardiness, or unsatisfactory performance will result in additional hours for the juvenile. What types of crimes will participants be charged with? JASP participants may be charged with misdemeanors or felonies. In most cases, they will be first time offenders. If your organization desires not to accept clients who have committed specific offenses, you may make this desire known to JASP and the child will not be referred. Crimes of a violent nature will usually not be referred to JASP. What liability does my organization and personnel have? Your organization has no liability. Through our contract with HRS, Workmen's Compensation Insurance is provided for all JASP� participants. Juvenile Services Program, Inc. also carries its own insurance covering all participants. In addition, parents and participants sign a waiver form releasing all liability from the worksite and JASP. How can my organization get involved in the JASP Works.ite Program? No drugs, alcohol, or weapons while in attendance at JASP/Project Divert. You may be subjected to search for these by JSP staff. 2. No smolcing. � - 3. No abusive language or cursing to staff or fellow participants. 4. Transportation is your responsibilitv. 5. You may not be absent or late without notifying the counselor and/or worksite. Unexcused lateness or absence will result in extra work hours. 6. I.eaving the iob site: Participants may leave the job site (to go to the bathroom, lunch, etc.) only with the pernussion of their supervisor. 7. Tool handlin�: Tools will be handled safely and with exrreme care. Participants will be responsible for care of tools and make restitution for any damage caused by carelessness or neglect. If the participant feels that the tool is inadequate for the assigned job, he/she is to notify their supervisor immediately. 8. Participant's verformance: Participants will be evaluated daily as satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Unsatisfactory perfomzance will result in equal compensatory time. . I understand that I will not be paid for my work and that my work will be for a non-profit community agency. Our conclusions were, we could utilize participants for the foiiowing tasks. 1. Painting of buildings and structures 2. Washing and waxing department vehicles 3. Cleaning windows and screens 4. Weeding and mowing 5. Light digging and excavation around Water Treatment Plant grounds. Item number 4 above would require the use of gas powered weed eater and riding mowers. If use of these items are considered dangerous tools and/or machinery, then this would be removed from the list.� � . , .
